Post Panic Progressive Press

I've been reloading for 3 years now on an rcbs rockchucker and have been saving up for a progressive press as a college graduation gift to myself. The time is almost upon us....and I can't find a press in stock anywhere in the paniced market.

I'm almost to the point where I might just buy a glock 20. At least I can find 10mm ammo/ components, no such luck with a 40 cal conversion barrel at this time though.

Should I wait for this panic to pass and buy an rcbs pro 2000 or will I have grey hair by the time this is available?

Get the progressive press whose color best matches the decor of your reloading room.

Seriously, they all, RCBS, Hornady and Dillon, all are good, they all have their advantages, they all have their disadvantages. Do some research and get past the rabid supporters of one brand or an other. Then wait until the supplies catches up with demand.

My recommendation is to not rush the decision or the purchase.

I have a Hornady L-N-L and two Dillon SDBs. I like them both. I'd like to try the RCBS and probably will after the panic settles down.

I am sure others will disagree.

I bought a LnL AP right before the panic and have enjoyed it very much!

....way more than a new blaster.

Just keep looking. Supply will catch up with demand. Reloading is a great hobby.

Personally either the Pro2000 or a Dillon 650, I have a 650. There is NO way I would pay for some of these crazy panic prices.

Have patience... I was able to get a Hornady L-n-L from Cabelas a couple of weeks ago. They're out of stock now, but should have more in soon.

I'm waiting on a back-ordered Pro2000 from OpticsPlanet, they estimate having stock by end of next month. MidwayUSA says they'll have Pro2000's in on April 9th.

Dillon is currently running about 6-8 weeks behind on their presses. A buddy of mine just ordered a 650 through Brian Enos, and was told to expect it in early May.

Unless you are REALLY desperate, do NOT pay the insane Ebay prices. They're just out of their minds. Go to the various web sites, and sign up for their notification emails (if they have them) - that way, when something lands in-stock, you'll know about it.

One more for the idea of wait a little bit, and my best advice is buy direct whenever you can, do not pay ebay prices. Blue is a very good color, goes with almost every caliber

Welcome to the forum and thanks for asking our advice.

What kind of quantities do you expect to be reloading? Will there be enough to justify a progressive?

How many different calibers? If you swap calibers often, a turret might serve you better.

But if a progressive is your heart's desire, do not be rushed into buying at the height of a surge in prices. Spend the waiting time to shop diligently.

I've been loading on a Dillon XL650 for 3-4 years now. I absolutely love it, although I've never used any other progressive, so can't make any comparisons. I also have a Lee Classic Cast that I bought for one-off tasks such as pulling bullets or re-seating high primers.

I'm not sure of the question. Are you wanting the Pro or what press did you have your mind on?

I'm leaning towards the pro2000. The stationary powder thrower and $implicity to switch calibers are the biggest pros. I'm just having a hard time find ANY progressive press for sale.

dleefoto, you cannot go wrong with a Pro 2000.. I love mine. The primer swaps are so simple! The caliber conversions are pretty easy.

Just wait, they will be available soon. If you are impatient, you can order direct from RCBS. It is more expensive from factory direct.

I have a Dillon Square Deal and a 650. If you are loading pistol only buy the Square deal, its fast easy and not that expensive.

If you want to load rifle and pistol in large amounts like 1000 at a setting use the 650.

I have had two Lee 1000's but was not smart enough to operate them!
