Powder dealers in Houston?

Putting this out there like my last post in this section, to widen my own knowlege.

Where do you other folks from the Houston area buy your powder, If or when you buy from a store Vs. hitting a gunshow or making a bulk order from teh likes of midway or Grafs.

I am at a place where i do not feel comfortable (nor am a really able to financially) buying a large enough amount of powder to justify the $22.50 Hazmat fee involved in online orders.
So, Friday or Saturday i intend to call as many places as i can to see who has what, and figure out what i need/want to do in regards to restocking my rifle powder(s). therefore the more places i know of to check with the better my chances of finding what i really want. :)

10 Ring is your best bet. I hate going to Carter's Country. High prices and indifferent (at best) service, other than the store on 59/Murphy Road, which has nicer staff (that's the only Carter's where I've bought a gun).
 
The best place in Houston for reloading supplies right now is Bailey's shooting range south of the beltway (8, on the south side of town) off Almeda St. They have primers for $35-45/1000 including win, cci, and federal. They have more powder than anyone I've seen as well as a large selection of bullets. They're also fully stocked on ammo.

Oh yeah, some of their powder looks to be old stock prices. Got a lb of WSF yesterday for $22 after tax.
 
CC is a pain to deal with, but usually has what you need in powders (because they charge an arm and a leg for it). Baileys has had components when i couldnt find them at CC, but is a little further from me. I haven't dealt with 10ring before so i can't say how they are.
 
+1 on the 10Ring - they generally have a good selection of powders, are not abusive on they're pricing and they're far more pleasant than many shops out there.

I'll have to try Bailey's at some point, but they're a ways from me.
 
For the last several years I've bought most of my reloading supplies through the internet, however, below are some of the places I used when I bought locally:

10 Ring is good although I have not been there recently. When I did the inventory was a little spotty. If you need something specific best to call ahead.

If you are looking for someone closer to home call I-J Fab - 979-297-1327. He sells at a lot of the gun shows. Not cheap but probably has what you need and saves the gas from Lake Jackson.

Bass Pro in Katy recently bulked up their supply of bullets but their supply of powder is anemic. Haven't figured out the same customer that buys bullets needs powder and primers to go with them. Don't know about the Bass Pro on the Sam Houston South but might be worth checking out.

American Shooting Center carried reloading supplies at one time but it's been several years since I've been there and they changed ownership last year.

Bass Pro in Katy has definitely gotten better - they had quite a few powders today - Blue Dot, Red Dot, Clays, Int'l Clays, Universal Clays, Titewad, Benchmark and a few others. They had a pretty good selection of rifle bullets, but not much in the way of handgun bullets. They have a decent selection of dies and equipment, and the prices on the equipment isn't bad. They're a bit on the high side on the powders, though.
 
10 ring is the place to go for smaller quantities.....but they will order larger quantities for you....... I buy large lots from the online places..... Powder Valley, Grafs, Natchez... etc...
 
Interesting, the last time I went into Bass Pro on South Sam Houston looking for reloading supplies I was told they didn't sell them.
 
Okay, it's May 1st 2012 I think it's time to recycle this thread.

Where's the best price and selection of powder in Houston these days? Also which of the Houston Area gun shows seems to have the most vendors with reloading supplies?

I live about half way between Houston and Austin and a trip to the big cities doesn't happen as often as it used to so I need to get the most bang for my gallon of gas!
 
Saving up and ordering online is still the best bet if you already know what you want. If you have to have it locally, I think all the posts above are still valid. Bass Pro has reloading supplies now, but they are way overpriced. Bailey's has what you want, but not the friendliest place. I've been to 2 gun shows in the last couple of years and their prices are too expensive.
 
10 ring, ASC and bass pro are my primary sources for small quantities.

Right now I am tapping down the stash so I can make a bulk order from Powder valley. I want to store just a few powders in decent quantities instead of a lot of powders with not much in 1lb cans.
 
10 Ring. Pretty important to remember the milage to/from any store and your milage cost. It doesn't take very many miles to beat the hazmat charge.:what:
 
Yeah Peter, but the OP is in Lake Jackson, and that's something like 80 miles. Quite a trek to save $22. Each way, so 160 miles RT @ .50 a mile.....lots of powder and primers.
 
Haven't been to a Houston gun show in years but they used to have powder and primers.
Trouble is, there is an admittance fee and a parking fee if I recall.
As with everything else, the Internet has made gun shows and local gun stores less attractive.
 
Trust me. Houston gun show power prices are obscene. $40 a pound for powder at the last show. Go for the entertainment, not to get powder.

Yeah, I can see your point on driving up from Lake Jackson. I would probably order it them. I tend to swing buy 10 ring at lunch hour or Bass pro when i am out for lunch at Katy Mills. Since I am already there, it is easy to pick up a few pounds and support them. Bass pro went through a period where they had nothing and now they have a fair amount so I feel obligated to support them a bit.

I also posted this just under 3 years ago, and I make regular trips all sorts of places in and around houston. travel costs are cut back quite abit if you only figure them for the portion of teh trip you weren't going to have to make anyway. :) thanks for all the info guys I'd almost forgotten i'd made this thread.

last few pounds i've bought have been from the Pearland BASS Pro. need to recheck my stocks fo rifle powder this week after i finish my work-space remodel.
 
Was at the Conroe gun show last weekend and they had a couple reloaders selling powder. One was high and the other was reasonable. Conroe shows are generally smaller but its also free parking. Still like the Reliant or GR Brown shows better...even with the parking fees.
I like 10ring the best or I order online.
 
Previous posts are dated, let's Fast forward a few years.

Today (Sunday) I visited 10ring's store for the first time today, was rather impressed with their selection of power and bullets.
They were out of 2 different Hornady .243 bullet weights I was hoping to pickup, but they had simular weights in Speer. Lady behind the counter was pretty knowledgeable about their stock, and was showing someone new to reloading how a certain press worked when I arrived. They were also well represented at the Gunshow at the George R Brown convention center.

The Sunday hours get my vote, although I feel Sunday is the Lord's day to rest, but when you can shoot, reload and go to gunshows!



Also at the Gunshow was IJ Fab and Sell - Husband and wife team from Lake Jackson, they had a good selection of powerer primers and bullets at the gun show as well. 979-236-7192. He had CFE-223 and Varget 2 powders that I was looking for and not having any luck

Powder prices at the gunshow was pretty much the same between the 2 listed above, maybe a $1 dollar different for some specific powders.
 
10Ring is at 12779 Jones Rd., not Grant Rd. Good people. Decent prices.
