powder for 30-06 and 243??

can the same powder be used between the two guns?? these are the only two rifles i reload (for now) thanks

H4350 (and others in its burn range) can do passably well in both. Glance thru Hodgdon's web site at their load data, and you'll probably find a few useful loads that share powder.

I agree with the H4350, and I also use a lot and like WW760/H414 if you want to go with a ball propellant. In my experience much better accuracy and more consistent velocities are had using mag primers and ball propellant.

I can count on sub 1/4" groups at 100 yards with very high velocities using either H4350 or H414 in my .243 when matched with bullets my rifle likes. I like other IMR style propellants in my 30/06, especially IMR 4064 but load density is low in my .243, and accuracy in my experience is not up to par.

Any 4350 burn rate powder is fine, as long as the .30-06 ammo is not destined for use in a M1 Garand. If so, then you will need to move to a 4895 burn rate powder.

I concur with the above. IMR 4064, 4350 and 4895 are alll acceptable. I currently use 4350 for .243 and 4064 for 30-06.

You might look at Hodgon H4831SC also. I've had excellent results with 165 gr to 180 gr bullets in .30-06. And there are some good loads in the Sierra manual for the .243. Lyman lists H4831 for the lighter .243 bullets too.

for .243 Win, and .30-'06. I use IMR 4350 for both; get XLNT results. Frankly, IMR 4350 is my go-to powder for just abt every medium-sized rifle cartridge.

Agree, anything in that approx. burn rate will work. Used to use IMR 4064 for the '06; that worked good; never tried it in the .243.

Am currently trying my IMR 4350 in the 6.5x55 Swede, even though Ken Waters says in Pet Loads that it doesn't work the best. No conclusive results yet. It does work good in 8mm Mauser.

Anyhow, best of luck in yr search. There are a lot of good powders out there, which will work in cartridges the size of yours. You will get other suggestions. It'll all come down to your trying a couple of likely candidates, and you'll probably stop looking when you find the first that's satisfactory in YOUR rifles.

I've used IMR 4064 in both with excellent results but as stated you'll want a slower powder for bullets heavier than 165 gr. in your 06.

I realize your trying to keep it as simple as possible, but a can of IMR 4350
for the 243 and IMR 4895 for the 30 06 and you're covered.

For lighter & moderate loads IMR 4895 is great will be good for both. My experience is IMR 4320 works better in 100 gr .243 and IMR 4350 is best for 180 gr .30-06.

+1 for H4350 being very suitable for both calibres, with a wide variety of bullet weights.

Also H-Varget for bullet weights 100gr and under in 243win and lighter 110-150gr in 30-06.

And H4831SC for heavier 243win and heavier 165-180gr in 30-06.

Just depends mostly, what you're loading for. IMO

I use the same charge of 38gr Varget with 70gr to 85gr in my 243win, which has a 20" barrel and find the faster Varget a good choice with lighter bullets in 243win.

I first thought of the 4350's, but I'm going to make a different recommendation:

Reloader 22

The best accuracy and velocity I ever got with either cartridges with 180gr in '06, and 100gr in .243 was with RL22.

In my '06 w/24" bbl, 60.0gr of RL22 wound give 2,800+fps and 1/2" groups with either Speer 180gr HotCor flat base, or 180gr Nosler BallisticTips.

the .243, a Savage M200 w/22" bbl would give 3,050fps with 100gr Hornady BTSP's and 3,100fps w/95gr Nosler B.T.'s and 1/2" groups over 42.5gr of RL22.

These are at or under current Nosler manual maximum loads.

For bullets lighter than 165gr in '06, and 85gr in .243; Varget, RL15 or IMR4064 would be hard to beat.
