HP38/231 has been really smokey for me in 9mm. Unique shoots better for me and much cleaner
Really? I wonder how low your W231/HP-38 charges were as your experience is quite opposite mine and I use mostly mid-to-high range load data with W231/HP-38.

I was thinking the same thing.

I have used most of the fast burning powders and unique in my opinion is alot smokier than 231, universal, power pistol, titegroup or the rest of the them. Uniquie (flake) is a very consistent powder but I have never got it to meter as well in my Lee auto-disk as the ball powders do.

I'm sort of partial to titegroup and power pistol but what ever works for you. I use power pistol even in my 357 mag and it so far is the most accurate load Iv'e ever loaded for my S&W model 28. Surprised the hell out of me!

but your talking about 9mm short and long.

Any of the powders mentioned in your replies will work for you.

I must concede that W231 is probably the most talked about and popular though.

Hp-38/w231 here. Just bought my first pound a few days ago. Widely available. Cheap and load data is everywhere.

It will burn sort of dirty in very low power 9mm loads. Still nowhere as bad as Unique. No matter what it's gunpowder. It's going to leave some residue.

I have been using titegroup for 9mm. It's not the cleanest powder. Also it is a lot cheaper than most other powders. My local Sportsmans Warehouse sells it for $119 for 8lbs.
