powder funnel rust?

So I pulled out my 45 acp power funnel after leading it in the die for about 6 months and I notice the outside of the funnel (part between the power die and the funnel) is all corroded. Is this to be expected? Is it ok to put a light coat of clp on the outside of the funnel next time? I did leave the funnel in the die when it was not in use..

This was in my garage in central texas..Its not super humid here so I'm kinda stumped. Nothing else shows any signs of wear or corrosion.

I have a little room inside my house for gun stowage and reloading (Man Cave). Even though I don't have to worry all that much about corrosion I still clean and restow everything when I have finished. It just dosen't take all that time and I know everthing will be up to par when I am ready to start again. It takes no time to reset up...And I never really know what I will be reloading next time anyway.

No. On a dillon power die there is a metal powder funnel (comes with conversion kit) that goes inside of the power die to drop it accurately into the case.

Is the rust showing up on the die or the funnel? I would think that a very light coat of gun oil might solve the problem. and I do mean "light"...

I would use something like Remington Dry-Lube spray or Johnsons Paste floor Wax.

Something makes me really nervious about using any kind of oil on any powder handling equipment.

Is it an aluminum funnel? Most metal powder funnels are because they don't produce static like steel funnels. That said, oil ain't gonna be the solution, because the corrosion was produced by the contact of the aluminum against steel, not by the same reaction of water and steel. Don't understand the principle myself, but the contact of dissimilar metals(steel and aluminum are the major ones) sometimes produces this type of corrosion.....i.e. aluminum generally does not "rust".

Actually that may be it..The funnel is way too light to be steel. The dies are steel. Is there anything I can do to stop this?

i use a plastic funnel when i need it too.... i always wipe it good with a new clothes drier sheet to keep the static at bay........
