Powder Suggestions for .45 acp

I picked an awful to get back into reloading. I want to load .45acp. I have 200gr copper plated (swc) lead bullets, and no powder. I wanted some Tite Group or Winchester 231......NO ONE has any that I can find. What would be some good alternate powder that is available?

Bullseye was the original GI mil-spec powder for many years.

I use Unique & 230 grain bullets almost exclusively in my 3 guns.

I recently switched from hp38/win231 to bullseye because of these hard times and actually think I found my new favorite powder for 45. I don't have a chrono so I cant give you any fancy numbers but With light charges of bullseye I am able to get less felt recoil and more dependable feeding than with hp38. Im using a cast truncated cone. I tried unique as well and was getting a lot of unburnt powder using any charge that wouldn't lead up my bore. I got clean burn near the end of my ladder test but I also had lead streaked all the way down the bore...
 
I use LongShot now. Used to use TiteGroup or Unique.

LongShot burns cleaner than Unique by far and meters better, and EVERY thing gives better velocity than TiteGroup.

I still keep TG on hand... I use it exclusively in 9mm
 
AA#5 works well, for 45acp I also use Bullseye and W-231.
700X is also a good one, I use the three above as they meter well in my powder throw.
 
You can safely use probably 40% or more of the available handgun powders available today in the 45 Auto. Some will produce better results than others but a lot will work.

W231/HP-38 is my favorite but you can also use, AutoComp, WST, Clays, Titegroup, Universal, 700X, PB, SR 7625, Red Dot, Green Dot, Promo, Unique, Bullseye, AA#2, AA#5 and Zip. You can even use HS-6, True Blue and Power Pistol and a few others in a pinch even though I think they are too slow for the 45 Auto. Of the 15 to 20 powders I listed above I'm sure you will be able to find a few.

That is a good list for 45 ACP.:)
 
Find a powder and get back to us. Lots of .45 shooters around and most any fast/semi-fast powders will work.

I use Bullseye now but plan to try a few workups with Longshot.
(I was ale to find Longshot in bulk and have yet to find/get any more Bullseye)

My range buddy worked up a nice load with HS-6. Accurate - what more can you ask for.
