Powders for 90 Grain Hornady XTP in 9MM

I thought I might try these as the other end of the spectrum from my normal use of 147 grain XTP loads in 9mm. However, I don't see some of the usual powders listed in various sources. I typically use HS-6, W231, CFE Pistol, and a little Silhouette for my 9mm loads. Hodgen's site only lists Silhouette for these bullets, and Hornady only lists W231. I suppose those are my answers, but does anyone use these projectiles successfully with the powders I usually use? HS-6 in particular has shown to be quite accurate with heavy bullets, but maybe it doesn't work well with the lighter stuff.

I don’t load 90s, but for 100s I use either Bullseye or W231/HP38.

Aha, there it is. Wonder why the velocity is lower than the others? I'll snag a box next time I'm at the LGS and see how they do. Nothing wrong with Silhouette, or W231. I probably won't try HS-6 unless the others don't work.

I haven't used the 90 Gr XTP, but have loaded 90 Gr JHPs in 9MM. What do you want from them?

Causal plinkers? "full power"? High velocity?

I typically use HS-6, W231, CFE Pistol, and a little Silhouette

Those will all "work".

I like 3N37 for the 90 Gr JHPs, real fast and a lot of fun from a pistol, they get there right now. Nicknamed "Little Lasers" by one of our members.

So, what do you want from them?

High velocity from a 5.2” Mete SFX and slightly higher from a Sub2000. Accuracy is nice but for this I’d put velocity just half a tick higher in the priority list.

Blue Dot is what I load in 115 XTPs for my carbine. I would like to try Accurate #7 and Blue Dot with 90 XTPs.

Blue dot or something similar was the way to gonif I could find any. I think I’ll start with Silhouette. It seems to have the most potential to do what I want.

I checked my Lyman manual and found some more data for many different powders. W231 gives some of the top velocity but that is for a Sierra JHP not the Hornady version. In any case I may well have some of the best powders after all. I have a little testing to finish with some cast 30-30 loads but after that I have what I need for the light XTP tests.
