hi guys.
wanting to work up some loads for my Ruger PC9.
it seems to like the RMR 124 gr MPR with sport pistol.
want to try some different powders like CFE Pistol and Power pistol (which i have on my shelf)
can't seem to find much load data for the Power pistol
anyone one else tried that power with that bullet?
loading:
range pickup trimmed to .751
CCI # 500 primer
coal - 1.040
the Horady book lists the 124 gr XTP W/ col of 1.060 using a start load of 4.3 gr
my lyman book list a 124 gr JHP w/ col of 1.060 using a start load of 5.0 gr.
just looking to get a safe starting load that will work the action.

any insights would be greatly appreciated.

thanks, Bob

As you already found out with Sport Pistol, RMR 124 gr MPR has shorter length than typical 124 gr JHP with rounder nose and longer bullet base that will produce shorter OAL with deeper bullet sitting depth.

Due to deeper seating depth, I would consider using more conservative load data or reducing start/max charges (Say maybe by .2 - .3 gr?) - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/thoughts-on-rmr-bullets.847718/page-3#post-11059276

would that be the Hornady XTP @ 4.3 gr
or
the Lyman JHP @ 5.0 gr.
in your opinion?

big diff

thanks

Hornady XTP bullets seat deep in the case, which is why you usually see it with a lower charge weight. One of the joys about reloading is that you can play with the seating depth. Will your guns accept any longer col than the 1.040? Just seems a little short.

with the plunk test, that's the happy length with my pc9 carbine.
tested it at that length a couple times with that bullet.
just looking to try some other powders (that i already have)
think i'll try 4.0. 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, 4.4 and see how they look.

Check vaalpens threads here, he may have tested the MPRs with Power Pistol.
I know he tested the 124gr FN FMJs and for me the load data between the two with a couple powders I tried was quite close at the same OAL. (1.08)
PP was not on of the powders I tried however. :(
If you need to go to 1.04 I agree with you starting about 4.0gr sounds wise.
