PPS M2

The wife had been wanting to upgrade her EDC for a while and we finally made the trip to the LGS yesterday.

Looking used in the $300 range she checked out a Shield 2.0, Sig 290 and the Walther PPS M2. She liked all three but it came down to the Shield and Walther. Overall she felt the PPS was more ergonomic for her so she went with that. After some haggling we ended up around $270 out the door.


Anyway, just looking for experiences with the Walther from folks that have had them or have them. Anything to watch for or be aware of?

We will shoot it next weekend but she seems very happy with her choice.

If she shoots thumbs forward the mag release is right there and she might accidentally hit it. Then again I imagine her hands are much smaller, so it might not be an issue for her at all.

It was accurate for a smaller single stack though. Bit of air in the factory sights.

I'm on my second one if it matters. I had another one but got stupid and traded it for a SA XDS 9mm both. Hated the SA, couldn't shoot the stupid thing so I sold it and with the money bought another PPSM2. I shoot it soooo much more accurate. I hope you bought a new one because there's a recall on earlier models. I paid $300. at Academy +tax and no FFL fee. Nothing against SA because I carry the XDE all the time, the XDS just didn't fit me.

There is a recall, drop safety
Check your serial number from this list.
Mine was from the first production run so it had to go back.
Took 2 weeks from start to finish so not a long wait.

If you bought a new one you won't need to send it back most likely. Just ck the numbers. I ck'd mine before leaving the counter. Google the recall, it's easy to find.

As for the recall, if the work has been done to the M2, there should be a punch mark inside the hollow space of the grip. Just behind the magazine. The website can give you more details. I imagine most gun stores will get the work done promptly but it is always a good idea to check.

Another problem that plagues the M2 is the dots of the rear sites keep falling out. A drop of clear drying super glue or epoxy inside the sight well might save it a trip to Walther.

Or just simple nail polish in the rear sight. I like doing simple stuff myself.

Sounds very sensible. The PPS M2 felt better to me too, I loved shooting it. Its biggest downfall, IMHO, is that it's tall when compared to alternatives. It hurts concealment wrt. Glock 43, Shield, etc. But if the lady carries in the purse, the height of the gun is probably not that important.

My PPS M2 had to go back to Walther for the drop-safe recall, I took it to the range this past Sat., and the trigger is as good as before and it shoots as good as it did before I sent it back. I’m very pleased with this gun and I would still recommend this gun even if it had been reworked or needed to be reworked.

I have the PPS M1. As others have said, I'm as accurate with it as with some larger pistols, and I'm not a professional. Plus, to me, the recoil is less than the Shield.

My son conceals a PPS M1, he tried the M2 and didn't like it as much. His is the two tone one and he loves it. He doesn't like my Shield .40

I don't see any problem with concealment in either waist or ankle.

I had a PPS M2 a few years back and it was a great little gun, but I prefer a paddle release and parted ways with the M2 in favor of an M1. Both shoot very well for their diminutive size and they carry very easily. With the M2, be sure to check whether the serial falls within the range of the recent safety recall. If they do, what I can say of Walther's customer service is that it's as good as any in the business.

That was my experience with it. I tried a whole bunch of different single stack 9mm and .40 pistols, nothing worked as well as the PPS M1.
