What is the practical difference between stamped and milled AKs, if any (accuaracy, durability, etc)? I have read contradictory info on this subject. Thanks.

If you want to spend 2, or 3 times as much money for an arguable difference in accuracy, and a 2 pound heavier rifle....go for the milled reciever. But, If you just want an AK that will last 10's of thousands of rounds, offer decent combat accuracy, and be exceptionably reliable at a minimal expense...get a stamped version, and have fun!:D

Accuracy may indeed be arguable...

But I know what a certain milled receiver Bulgarian SLR-95 is capable of. ;)

Cost.
Milled guns cost more to make.
If you are talking real AKs and not civilian legal ones, it has alot to do with age and where they were made.

Gewehr98,

The Bulgies are some of the better AKs. They tend to be more accurate than the run of the mill jobs. I can't go along with the theory that the increased accuracy is due to the milled receiver since both of the SA93 milled receiver Bulgarians I owned were less accurate than my SA85M stamped receiver Hungarian.

I agree that a good quality AK with good ammo is capable of surprising accuracy. I don't think that the milled receiver is what makes the difference.
