Pre-Ban firearms

Can someone explain to me what all the hype is about with pre-ban firearms?

I notice they tend to hit incredibly high auction prices, but I cannot seem to find any differences between them and current production semi-auto rifles.

Some states like NY still have "assault weapon" bans in state law. While the federal ban expired, people in those states still have to comply with that nonsense because of state law - thus the continued market for "pre-ban" guns. Also, the '89 import ban is still in effect so there would still be a market for pre-89 imported guns.

Aye, it's the same way here in MA. Pre-ban ARs sell at a HUGE premium (I know, I just bought one).
