Anyone into shooting .22's with aperture or peep sights?
A good friend of mine has a Rem 40x, a Win 52B, and used to have a Win 75. Ever since I first shot his guns several years ago, I've kind of been on the lookout for a target style .22 with aperture sights.
Last week I finally picked up a 1950 Rem 513T with Redfield 75 sights. It's in pretty good shape overall, and seems like it will be accurate.

I tried it out yesterday in the back yard at 25 yards, running 5 rounds each of a few different types of ammo through it to see what it likes.
The CCI standard and Fed Gold Medal HV Match(719) seem promising. I want to try some Eley Tenex, Eley Match, or Wolf eventually, but I'm pretty happy with how the "cheap" ammo performed.
I went back and shot another 5 round group with the CCI on a 2" shoot-n-c to make sure the first group wasn't a fluke. It was good other than the flyer.
I'm looking forward to playing around with it some more. There's just something satisfying about shooting rimfires.

I don't have a gun like that, but I've had some trigger time with a pair from two different shootin' buddies. Those rifles made me look like I knew how to shoot.

I love the target rimfires in the size range of the 513T, BRNO Models 3 or 4, and Winchester 52. They are very accurate -- partly due to their size and weight, and the resulting fact that they ride the bags so well. They are quiet enough with their 27" barrels that you don't need ear protection when shooting standard velocity ammo (probably not with HV either). I don't have one with irons any more, but used to have this Model 3.

I shot it with the irons, never had a scope on it.

Now have this Model 4 (sold the Model 3 and got the Model 4 only because I like the trigger mechanism on the Model 4 better - otherwise they're essentially identical). I shoot this one with a scope, usually a Weaver T-24 as shown. I like the irons okay but just like a scope better. This is my favorite rimfire to shoot out of all I've ever owned or fired. That is, assuming the conditions are conducive. It weighs 10 lb. 9 oz. with the scope so wouldn't want to tote it very far through the fields and squirrel woods, or do much off-hand shooting with it. :)

Too Early in the morning to get a current pic, it is in the safe (without the scope), but my only iron sight .22 rifle right now is an old Mossberg 340BB, and the only pic I have of it on my computer shows it wearing an old simmons scope.

I dont take it to the range much anymore, but it is nice to have when bumming around the trails, teaching someone to shoot with irons, or camping.
I own more accurate, scoped .22s, but this old boy scout training rifle is accurate and still in pretty good shape so it owns a spot in the gun safe and I am guessing I am gonna keep it around and pass it on to one of my kids or grandkids eventually.

LOL :)
Yep, I'd bet the guns themselves, right off the bat, would cut most people's group sizes in half or less compared to the typical semi-auto or other sporter size-and-weight gun.

I’ve had this Marlin 2000L for many years. I don’t have any targets but it is an excellent shooting rifle for and entry level target rifle. While not a 22, my FWB 300S is probably the most accurate rifle I’ve ever shot. I’ve got a stack of targets like this one. It will shoot groups like this all day long. This was off the bags indoors. I can’t imagine any rifle being more accurate. D0CA7DA9-C3C9-448D-9FEE-8C7066D0716F.jpeg C163B47A-BB92-47F8-975B-440854BCBA5E.jpeg F85850A6-FF01-4EB8-9213-866CDDACE5C4.jpeg

I'd actually looked at a 513T last weekend on a gun show table. Wood was darker than yours though and may have been refinished. Bluing was pretty good and the rifle was in good shape overall. Guy priced it to me for $500, which seemed fair enough...but I decided against it so close to Christmas. About 20 minutes later I saw a guy carrying it out the door.

I have an old Marlin 60 with Tech Sights I use for Rimfire Silhouette competitions. I didn't shoot this month but plan to next month. I need some trigger time with it. I haven't done particularly well. Last time I came in both first and last. I was the only competitor to show up. I have not used globe sights, but I understand they are more accurate than the Tech Sights and aperture and Patridge sights in general. I use it as a trainer for similar aperture set-ups on my Marlin 336 and a AR15 A4 clone with carry handle sights.

I like Tech Sights a lot. I have them on two 10-22's, and one of their front posts on a Stevens62 with a William's rear. The Redfield type aperture sights are more accurate in my experience, but the tech sights are quicker
