Okay, I haven't gone hunting myself in a long time, and that was just ducks... but my dad's an avid hunter, does black powder and rifle season for deer and elk, and occasionally antelope. Also does duck, goose, pheasant, and small game on occasion. Still hoping to join him someday, but it hasn't happened yet.

Here's the kicker though- he's got most of what he'd need (just bought a new Tikka .308 this year, for example), and he's got a birthday that's just a couple weeks after Christmas.

Anybody have ideas for reasonably cheap gifts that would be handy for a hunter?

Thanks,
Kevin

define "reasonably cheap"
I hunt while carrying:
one of several knives (variable pricerange)
flashlight. Surefire G2 (around $30) or an E2L ($100) or the even better but more expensive Aviator.
Gloves or mittens. I like my Polar shields.
good wool bootsocks
the list goes on and on and on...

Gift Card?

Not sure what 'reasonably cheap' is to you...someone else mentioned nice wool socks..I would second that vote.

You can get nice knives without putting out too much cash. Knives are one thing I find I can never have enough of. They just seem to go missing on me.

One thing I have learned from my dad, whose an avid golfer...sometimes they DO have everything that they need. And...avoid cheesy gimmick type gifts....

BP shooting might be the most accessorized sport in the world - there are lots of little gizmos for BP hunters, poke around in a Cabella's catalog.

I'd try to find a picture from a hunting trip and take it to a photo place to be blown up, then frame it.

Best idea yet!
In years past, I have made frames for hunting pics of friends and family from old barn board, pieces of antler, pheasant feathers, old shotshells, etc. I'm gonna have to get busy and do some more.

Gift card +1
cant go wrong get one from the local outdoor world (Dick's, Gander Mountian, Whatever you got)

-Wyoming Saw (very very handy and lots of hunters don't know about them it seems), not very expensive

-A nice QUALITY flashlight(if he's like my dad, he's never owned a Surefire, and would be amazed),

-Alaska Knives or something semi-custom (yeah, he's probably got lots of knives, but I don't know of one hunter who doesn't always want more)

Hard to know without looking at his inventory. A gift card is great too, a little impersonal, but would let him fill the niche I'm sure he thinks he needs to fill!
