:(

When Ronald Reagan ran against Jimmy Carter, it was the first - and so far only - time I was able to vote for someone for President. instead of voting against the other guy.
HankB, you took the words right out of my mouth.

it was my first national election too. glad i voted for him, he brought pride in being an american back to a lot of people.

Preacherman, thanks for putting this in the proper perspective.

Here is the text of President Reagan's announcement that he had been afflicted with Alzheimer's:

November 5, 1994

My fellow Americans, I have recently been told that I am one of the millions of Americans who will be afflicted with Alzheimer's disease.

Upon learning this news, Nancy and I had to decide whether as private citizens we would keep this a private matter or whether we would make this news known in a public way. In the past, Nancy suffered from breast cancer and I had my cancer surgeries. We found through our open disclosures we were able to raise public awareness. We were happy that as a result, many more people underwent testing. They were treated in early stages and able to return to normal, healthy lives.

So now we feel it is important to share it with you. In opening our hearts, we hope this might promote greater awareness of this condition. Perhaps it will encourage a clearer understanding of the individuals and families who are affected by it.

At the moment I feel just fine. I intend to live the remainder of the years God gives me on this Earth doing the things I have always done. I will continue to share life's journey with my beloved Nancy and my family. I plan to enjoy the great outdoors and stay in touch with my friends and supporters.

Unfortunately, as Alzheimer's disease progresses, the family often bears a heavy burden. I only wish there was some way I could spare Nancy from this painful experience. When the time comes, I am confident that with your help she will face it with faith and courage.

In closing, let me thank you, the American people, for giving me the great honor of allowing me to serve as your president. When the Lord calls me home, whenever that day may be, I will leave with the greatest love for this country of ours and eternal optimism for its future.

I now begin the journey that will lead me into the sunset of my life. I know that for America there will always be a bright dawn ahead.

Thank you, my friends. May God always bless you.

A real LEADER of great character, courage, and determination, President Reagan won the Cold War, restored the American economy, and revitalized the United Sates military.

He was a great man, and easily the greatest president of the 20th century, possibly the greatest since Jefferson.

I hope they bury him at Arlington. :(

Sir, you were the greatest President in my life time!
We love and respect all the great things you did for
America. May GOD shed his grace on thee, and may
you forever rest in peace; as we extend our deepest
condolence and sympathy to your family!

Respectfully,
Ala Dan, N.R.A. Life Member

One of the greatest presidents in U.S. history is now awaiting the Resurrection in Jesus Christ, our Lord.

We will miss him.

God's finger touched him, and he slept. - Tennyson

Though I only got to vote for him in mock school elections, there hasn't been a better President in my lifetime. I was proud to serve under him while he was CINC. I actually got to shake the man's hand during a Presidential visit to Pearl Harbor in 1986 or 87.

Godspeed, Mr. President.

Today, God called Ronald Reagan home, to take his place alongside the other Giants of history.

President Reagan is now in the company of God, alongside Winston Churchill, Thomas Jefferson, George Washington and the others.

Mankind produces very few true GIANTS! Ronald Reagan was one of them.

May God grant you rest from your labors, Mr. President. This world is a better, safer, and more free place because of your efforts. So long as the spark of libery burns in the hearts of men, you will be fondly remembered. Rest in peace!

His determination to adhere to the simpler principles and apply them against the grave dangers facing all of us during the Cold War made him an awesome leader.

Today was truly a sad day.

Right now, in Heaven, Dutch is poking fun at Hamilton's overblown view of the Federal government. Jefferson is laughing his butt off. Washington is chuckling. FDR is crying. And Hamilton is looking around the poker table wondering who the sucker is.

A sad day rest in peace Mr. President.

What do I think of Reagan? I don't recall.

That was quite rude, try to recall what your Mother told you in these situations if you have one. Joshua

Only appreciate him even more as the years go by. God rest his soul.

Bill, what a terrible and immature thing to say. Try to walk the High Road.

And Mr. President, Rest In Peace. God bless.

I was old enough to vote for President Reagan in 84 and I will never forget how he brought pride back to this country. Not just pride to be an American but also pride on a global level.
Before he came to lead this great nation I remember all the things that went wrong JFK assasinated, Vieatnam, the gas embargo, VP Agnew and then Nixon, Ford was never given a chance and then Carter and the Iranian hostage crisis. By the time The Great Communicator came along this country was as low as it has ever been there was no morale and nobody waved a flag. It was a truly sad time for this country and Reagan changed everything and he is the yardstick that I measure all future Presidents by.

I knew this day was coming and didn't know it would hit me this hard sorry if I rambled on.

Mr. President you were a true American who cared about the good of this country above all else Thank You for your service and may God welcome you into His home and let you get the rest you earned.

He deserved better than these last years. Now He had an amazing life. We owe him.

What more can I add? A great man and a great loss. Two of my uncles suffer/ed from the disease. One is still with us.

Bill St Clair - I do enjoy jokes, even sick ones at times, but yours was completely inappropriate. May you .............. grow up?
