Presidents and Personal "Nightstand" Guns

I figured the pres would have a clicker, like the ones used to open the garage door, in a shoulder rig. When he clicks it two F1 eleven, fighter planes show up insataniouslly, or a commanchee gunship pops up. Or a squad of special forces sleep under the bed lol.

I was thinking more like a "clapper", myself.

{clap clap}

3 foot wide columns of plasma drops from orbit, vaporizing bad guys.

If a terrorist happens to get through untold dozens of secret service agents
To quote someone who knew something about the subject:
Back when we were working frequently in Central America, we found it necessary to point out to our employers that a bodyguard is not much use if he is working for the other side. No matter how much you pay your own bodyguard, other people can offer him more. They do not have to pay him, because they will make sure that when they get you, they get him too.
...
You must have noticed the recent murder of the Swedish Foreign Minister Anna Lindh. She was stabbed to death in a department store while the crowd looked on in quiet detachment. Sweden has been a nanny state for a long time now - the socialist ideal. When a bystander complained that the minister should have had a bodyguard on station, one might ask what a bodyguard would have done under the circumstances, since fighting is presumably as distasteful to one Swede as another. It is not to jeer at this disaster, of course, only to view with alarm the nature of the non-combat mind-set.

- Jeff Cooper

I recall, but cannot immediately find, a comment Cooper made to a national leader after he had trained the elite guard: something to the effect of "I know they are very good, but do you really know them?"

Reagan's 45 was unloaded. He pointed it out a window to stop the incident.

Look if I ever see trouble going on right outside my window and choose to throw up the sash, lean out, show my gun, and cause it to stop, I will be sure to unload my gun when the cops show up 20 minutes later and claim it was never loaded in the first place.

avoids unwanted questions.

Either that or I will unload it by pulling the trigger.

Thomas Jefferson

It's said that Jefferson advocated that elected officials should NOT be armed, nor have armed body guards. Interesting concept that speaks to the NECESSITY that the People be armed at least as much as government officials. Of course, maybe the next King will be a good King...

READYONTHERIGHT - "What if the Secret Service is compromised?"

Then the USMC Presidential Protection Detail would also have to be compromised. You'd be surprised how many of those really tough and dedicated Marines there are in and around the White House... and they have some very formidable weapons. They have one mission and one mission only: protect the President at all costs. ;)

Nixon, a stolen 32acp
Good one.:D
I was thinking Nixon would have an old pepperbox derringer hidden up his sleeve, along with 2 aces, just like the old timey gamblers.whenever he'd take it out to clean it, he'd wear his fake Snidely Whiplash mustache and do the super villian cackle....
:D

According to Wikipedia, from the entry for King Zog I of Albania:

The attackers struck whilst Zog was getting into his car, and he survived by drawing his own pistol (which he always carried) and firing back at his would-be assassins. This is the only occasion in modern history when a Head of State has returned fire with potential assassins.
:p

For those that are dissing on Pres Carter.....there is a hand written note I have seen on the internet where he is sending a note of apology to a neighbor who's cat he shot with a shotgun and killed. I will look around for it and see if I can find it to post........
