I like the Izula. I'm probably getting one of those soon myself. Did you make those grips yourself? If so they came out good. It's nice to see someone add some wood on one instead of the usual paracord.

I'm with him on the pins. I bet you could even find some colored ones to go with your theme there.

I don't see pins as fitting the overall look of the knife.

I'm not sure that I like the brass phillips screws as much as something else. I just can't think of the something else right now.

Rat Cutlery makes an Incredible knife. This is one of my favorites. I like handle. HSO is right. Pins would be out of place. I know I would want the handles to removable. I would swap the Phillips for Allen heads. But I still like it.

Hey Jim,

I like slot or Phillips so even with loctite if the come loose in the field it's easier to tighten.

Do you like Allen for the looks or function?

Thanks

The correct pins would not be out of place at all , a nice mosaic pin would fit in right nice.

The screws , are just too large and overpowering for that size handle. Shouldn't need more than 4-40 size screw.

I like the it more for look than function. I know what I would do. Get the blued slot screws. Now I would like that it has the look and usability.

To put mosaic pins in this knife you have to destroy the original knife, because glue or epoxy will destroy the coating. The original function of this knife was never meant to be permanent handled knife. By adding handles and pins you make this a very expensive $81.00 MSRP 1095 knife blank. For 81.00 I could make this knife of the finest Mike Norris Damascus Stainless Steel.

It does sound good to put pin in it. But it is very expensive, and destroys the knife and it value.

I agree with you on ruining the finish on it. Even though the pins look good, you would have to like the handle enough to never want to change it. I like that knife just fine with no handle or paracord...but it's interesting to see the stuff people do with them.

Although you can't buy the knife you'd make for $81 though. :D ...the Rat on the other hand you can get for about $40.

I made the purple heart grips for a fellow on blade forum for his girlfriend. Black always get the wrong reaction from my non-knife daughters :)

My personal knife is this one :

and the Becker Necker (I made for someone) :

Still $40.00 is a very expensive 1095 knife blank.

Now your talking! Those look great. How do the screws attach to each other?
I make a 5/32" filler for the inside of the skeleton in that triangular shape. One side is glued to one grip. Then the screws go through one grip, the filler, then the other grip.

Yeah, I have to laugh when I see 1095 blades going for over $200. Nothing against 1095...it's good at what it does and all, I like it just fine but it's not exactly the most expensive steel out there.

where are these available and how much to the run? I really like the looks of em....
PT1911,

I made the grips in my shop. I'm not a knife maker, just a guy who enjoys woodworking and wood on knives and firearms :)

Here are a few other things I made for people :

The Becker scales only :

I have sold a more than few 1095 Knives for over 200.00. 1095 is great tool steel. It allows for incredible Hamon line. It properly HTed it makes a great blade.
In reality no steel is expensive. I have seen 30 dollars worth of tool steel turned into 25000.00 Knives. Most high end Folder have less than 30 worth of steel. Just check out what Ron Best or Edmond Davidson with a piece of $50.00 of 440C. Good luck try to buy it under 3000.00. In Production knives it is about the steel. But when you enter the world of customs. It is no longer the steel but more about who made it, and the style of the knife.

Jantz, Texas Knife supply, Sheffield, Knife kits are all good sources for blades.
