My SKS has started getting a little suface rust on the bayonet close to its mounting point and on the front sight. Every few days I take a oily rag and scrub it off which removes it, but it ends up coming back in just a few days. What can I do to remove this gun cancer?

1) what oil are you using on it?

2) what kind of environment are you/ your guns in?

a good application of paste wax should help in keeping rust at bay

1. Remoil for this particular application and cleaning. Thicker oil for lubrication.

2. Panama City, FL, 100 yards from salt water. Is that hurting me here?

Rust Never Sleeps

More frequent use?
Seriously, I'm trying anti-rust paper from Brownells
Once I had a workshop in an old barn, tools rusted enthusiastically. I finally sprinkled a lot (pounds) of sodium bicarb to neutralize years of cow urine. Amazingly, it worked.
Good luck

I've had a couple problem children (with rust). One of them is the Yugo SKS. I don't know what the heck composition the metal is but it seems like I just can't do enough.

Finally I broke down and just slathered the SOB in Break Free Collectors Oil. That stuff keeps guns "wet" for over a year. Haven't had problems with it since.

Only issue, is after you fire a few shots everything smokes pretty good. It says you should clean the oil off before firing.. but I'm a sucker for a smoking barrel.

You can buy eezox directly from the company:

I love this stuff as a rust preventative(not as lubricant).

I also use Vapor Corrosion Inhibitor products:

http://www.theruststore.com/Bull-Frog-Emitter-Cup-P24C12.aspx

Be careful of the blocker strips, they have a green logo printed on the vapor sponges that comes off and sticks to your gun. If you get those, keep the labels away from your gun.

I have a Emitter cup in the gun cabinet, Emitter shield in drawers where i keep accessories/tools and strips in gun cases/bags. You can also throw these in tools boxes, range bags, etc.

I have a Norinco 97 shotgun. The rear sling loop would rust like crazy. I had it drenched with oil and the thing would rust over night. I sent it in to George Roghaar( http://gunblue.homestead.com/ ) to get reblued and it hasn't rusted since.
