Previous fence sitters ask you about getting a means of defense after Paris attack?

"As for your other note, explosives and shoulder fired missiles are a little bit harder to get in this country than a firearm and you likley reduced the number of potential "terriorists" that are likely to use them."

We had a high-ranking state senator dedicated to exactly this pursuit who got busted a while back (no other state officers implicated in an international arms smuggling ring reaching from LA to Newark ) so you might be surprised what all the scumbag pols we haven't yet nailed are getting up to. Heck, weren't some grenades and launchers stolen by common street thugs in the National Guard raid from a few days ago?

I think it will take an event here in the states to wake up a lot of the people I know who are anti-gun.

You have a better chance of drowning in your bath tub or getting hit by lightning than getting killed in a terrorist attack.

Thing is, those, like all odds are changing.
Don't tell me you aren't cautious when you step into the tub or that you don't seek cover in a thunder storm.

A train car, probably in LA, was broken into within the last several years. The part-time hotel security guy/police officer in Lafayette LA told me this story about two years ago at a hotel not far from the university.

Because of very subtle, suspicious driving habits etc (apparent to LEOs), the thieves were caught.
They had stolen some select-fire military rifles and grenades and these were in a car trunk on the interstate highway. Maybe they had inside info as to which train car(s) carry these?

If anybody at work is a "fence sitter", they never admit it. 95% of the guys I've worked with who do own guns just hunt, and a few carry. With the other staff there is seldom time to discuss it.

Does anybody here read/understand French well enough to check the French mass media about this subject? Maybe a few of you Canadian guys?

And if you ARE caught up in a terrorist attack, you have a better chance of catching Amelia Earhardt, D.B. Cooper and Bigfoot in a threesome at a cheap motel down by the airport than you are to be "protected" by the police, such that you survive.

I've seen repeated claims that light bars and other items have disappeared from Chicago Police Department facilities.

Is somebody planning something? If so, they couldn't pick a better place for it than Chicago.

A post on Facebook on my SO's wall was telling of a whole truck load of uniforms for temporary Big Brown drivers that just evaporated off the face of the earth. I tried tracking the rumor down but did not have much luck so----? They probably just delivered it to the wrong place as usual. It is just a matter of time until something happens in the US despite all the precautions. When it does, being armed/prepared will pay off for any of us that happen to be near the problem IMHO.

FWIW I have taken both of those individuals to the range for a session with .22's and then a 9MM. They both agreed to go to a gun safety class before they buy a firearm as long as it happens soon.

Yes, the odds are as you state, however, should you find yourself unfortunately being attacked by a terrorist (or criminal), then you no longer are part of the odds, you are then part of the statistics.

As for the anti-gun fence sitters, when I lived in Los Angeles, during the 1992 South Central Riots (aka Rodney King Riots), I had a couple of anti-gun people call me and ask if they could borrow a handgun. They'd tried to buy one but there was at that time a 15 day waiting period for a handgun in Calif.

I do not lend firearms to anyone. I told them to join the NRA and fight for getting rid of the onerous anti-guns laws in Calif., and the Nation.

I don't think they did. After all, the riots were over a few days later so ...... who need a gun??

My brother in law, last week. Took his first basic handgun class, I am taking him shooting next week, he is buying his first two handguns right after and a home defense shotgun. Glad to see some fence sitters going in the right direction. It's about time that people realize that some bad stuff is going to go down in the U.S. during the election season. Will make for great ISIS headlines and I have no doubt that there are plenty of sleeper cells in this country already in place.

For years I have been referring to these "fence sitters" as folks neutral to gun-ownership. Because gun owners were in the minority and true anti-gunners were in the minority, it was those folks neutral to gun ownership(do not own a firearm, but are not opposed to others owning a firearm) that allowed us to continue with gun ownership as we know it. This is why we have to appease even those that are not jumping off the fence to our side, but those still perched on top waiting to jump/fall.........one direction or the other. I have preached that here and at the Hunter Safety Classes I help teach. This is why, even to those not asking for help, we have to always display a responsible and positive image as gun owners, not only to maybe get them on our side of the fence, but at least to keep them on top and not on the other side. I see so many folks trashing non-gun owners and calling them sheep or other negative names. Chest thumping and posturing, making gun owners look rude and "Bubba" like. I see folks being irresponsible not only with their mouths/keyboards, but with their firearms and their actions. Well known celebrity hunters flagrantly violating gun laws. Local hunters with their names in the paper for shooting after/before hours or other taking of game illegally. Displaying their harvest in a negative way to the disgust of even other hunters. Teaching someone willing and asking and then converting them is not the only way to keep our rights. We also have to not tick off those neutral to us.

I fail to to see how defending and promoting America's hunting and sporting traditions is germane to the "getting a means of defense after Paris attack" discussion.

I had one text asking about "anti-terrorist" guns, and if I had any for sale.

No I don't, but AR-15's are both cheap and plentiful right now. Jump on one.

Not sure if he bought one, no further texts received.

I pointed him in the direction of a dealer who carries lots of ARs, and has pretty good prices on them.

Recent conversation went like this:

"Hey man, after the Paris thingy, I think I need some sort of protection, do you have anything in your stash you'd like to sell?"

"My 'stash'? Why don't you just go to the gun store?"

"Oh, I'll never step foot in one of those places."

"Okay, but I charge double what the gun store charges."

"That's fine."
