Hey folks,

A local gun store has a nice old bolt action Montgomery Ward rifle in 30-06 for $275. My guess is that the rifle was made back in the 1950s, but I know nothing about it. Not sure what the model number is, but it has iron sights. The configuration is similar to a Mauser 98. Can anyone tell me about the quality of these rifles and whether $275 is a fair price? Thanks for your input.

Checking the Blue Book of Gun Values (S.P. Fjestad), I couldn't find any rifles marked Montgomery Ward. Ward's guns were sold under the "Western Field" trademark and most were built by Mossberg, Savage and Stevens. If you can get a model number, I can look up which mfr. and model it is.

Montgomery Wards guns have little or no collector interest, so should be valued as a shooter. I would think that $275 is fair for what is probably an old Savage or Stevens bolt gun.
