Price check: Remington 541-S

Don't have a copy of the Blue Book around and haven't found a lot online. What's the current value of a Remington 541-S? I've seen some on GB with "buy it now" prices as high as $1200 and with starting prices at $800+ but there are no bids or buyers. What's a realistic price for one in 98%+ condition?

I'm just guessing, as I have a 541-T HB, but watching gunbroker at times, I would say it might sell at somewhere between $400-$500.
Some often get greedy and place ridiculous prices to test the waters.

You are absolutely correct about "no bids", "reserve" etc auctions. People think what they own (house, gun, collectible) is worth such and such and it never sells. I love wasting time watching stuff on GB. My guess is that despite everything positive about certain firearms, people just do not have alot of disposable income. If you watch long enough you will see a "no reserve" auction with a low starting price. That is when you get to see what something is actually worth.

The market for $1,000 22s must be fairly small as I see Kimbers, Anschutz, Winchester 52s mostly end up with no bids!

The thing is, Gunbroker has no penalty for putting something out there for months and months. You only pay the initial listing fee and then again if it sells. So it's become jam packed with speculators trying to get rich off every sale. Just like gun shows. There are some good deals out there and some fair deals on obscure guns but you have to be patient.

I sold my 541s without a scope last fall. It had a finicky bolt, but shot as accurate as any stock 541s. I sold it for $450.00 cash face to face, and had about twenty people waiting in line if the first buyer backed out. It was in about 95% on the condition, mainly because of the finicky bolt. That is the cheapest I have personally seen one go for. So I would say a 541s sells at $450.00-$600.00 realistically. All depends on the seller and the buyer.

The 541s I had was a great rifle, but it didn't shoot any better than my Browning A-bolt. I liked the A-bolt better so that's the one I kept.

A nice 541-S will sell for around $650-$750 these days. 541-T's sell in the $450-$500 area.
