A local Galyans has a SP101 2 1/4" .357 (w/Hammer) for $379.99. This seems like a good price, does anyone else have a better price online? Thanks.

I went through a phase where I was dead set on getting one of these in a 2". Ended up opting for the three inch, which Galyans doesn't carry (at least not mine). I shopped everywhere online, and after shipping and transfer fees you're not going to do better than $379.95 on a local buy, even with your six percent sales tax. Our galyans is running a 10% sale storewide that includes firearms (dunno about ammo) with a coupon from the local paper this weekend. so that could save you the governor's cut right there and then some.

Maybe you could do better on an internet auction, but I doubt it.

Then again, I saw a used one in the case at the range with a holster that someone was asking $400 for. Sheesh. More like $300

Price Check: SP 101

Well, 3 years ago I paid about $ 379 for MY SP 101 in 3" bbl down here in Texas, so I can't say you'd be getting ripped off.

I'll tell you, thats an excellent snubby and I have to admit carrying it more often than my 1911 or Glock 19 - its my "short-notice" year round carry piece and I have never even remotely regretted it purchase.

I got my SP-101 .357mag 3" for $75.

Yes, $75. Got it in trade with another item for a gun that was the right price.

I like it when I can get a great gun at a ridiculously low price.

$300-350 sounds about what they are going for new locally.

Get it, you'll enjoy it. Stout magnum loads are no problem with this gun.

I just got a used 3" stainless SP101 that locked tight and had no discernable wear at all for $300.00. After shooting it, I would not have been dissapointed had I paid $325-350 for it.

Bought mine (NIB) for $319 plus $15 shipping and $15 FFL paperwork fee, but with zero sales tax, via GunBroker.

Wow, it seems that the good deals are online! RWK, did you purchase your gun through a dealer or private person on Gunbroker? Bad news is that the local Galyans just sold the last one this morning. I shall look into purchasing online. Thanks again.

Which is the better Ruger SP101? The 2" or 3"? I kind of like both sizes myself....I was actually hoping to pick up a GP100 3" too but I was told on another forum that there were some issues with this gun. This is the first I've heard of it. Does anyone have any info on about problems with the GP?

Mastrogiacomo,

That's the first I've heard of any GP-100 problems...have had mine for 10 years and love it: built like a tank, takes the heaviest stuff I handload, and just seems to get better and better.

The GP isn't the lightest .357 around, but is a wonderfully made handgun that'll stand up to frequent use of magnum loads.

Glad to hear of it. I just got a 92FS Inox Brig last Saturday and plan to make this year, the year of the Rugers. The GP100s are on my list of must buys along with the Bisley Vaquero and possibly the SP101...:) Next month, probably toward the tail end -- I'm going to get a New Single Six. Can't wait...

I've never heard of issues with GP100.

You should join Galyan's frequent buyer program and give them your e-mail address. They might just send you a post-Christmas coupon right away. Many a ROTR budget has gone down in flames to break the $300 or $400 Galyan's total purchase price and save $75-$100.

I think the last one I had was $75 off if you buy $300 plus worth of stuff. That would make your Ruger much closer to $300. Maybe it's even worth asking a clerk.

You should also check www.gunsamerica.com, but add in for shipping and FFL transfer.
