Hello all, just found a 1950 Russian SKS with 1,557 rounds of ammunition, sling, cleaning kit etc. Have not had the chance to look it over yet. They are asking $495 for it with the ammunition. How does that sound?

I know ammunition has jumped recently, and the Russian SKS's are typically higher than the others, but I am not sure if the package price is good or not.

A little advise would be great.

Well, the going rate for 1,000 rounds is about $180 these days. for 1,500 rounds or so, that would be $270.

So subtract $270 from the price and you have $225 - which isn't bad, if it blued and not painted, and in good shape, matching, etc.

Depends a lot on condition and whatnot.

Thanks 270, that's pretty much the math I came up with. Guess I just wanted to hear someone else agree.

I guess I'll go check it out and see what happens.

I paid $200 for my newest sks and the ammo is 140 to 180 per 1000 if the gun is in good shape it sounds like a deal:)

I'd grab it! You don't find Russian models for that price very often anymore. I saw a couple at the gun show last week and they were asking $450 for them. I've bought a couple some years back and they were expensive even back then.

i just picked up an unfired russian sks testerday with only 200 rounds of ammo a gave $200.00 for it wish it would have come with 1500 rounds.

i would buy it in a heart beat

Gunlover, Right after I started this thread I actually took the time look around some and saw your post. Nice find! I'm going to actually look this one over Saturday morning. Hopefully it will be as nice as described. Thanks for your input.

Lets not support the Russion and China arms industry--The commies are providing arms to people who are killing our boys in Iraq. So lets stop buying any arms and ammo made by them.

Is there any credibility to this statement whatsoever? If you have definitive proof that the Russians or Chinese are currently providing weapons to insurgent forces in Iraq, you should probably contact the Defense Department with that info.

Neither of these rifles is being imported into the US from Russia or China, so you're not supporting either country by purchasing one today. In addition, you can always buy American-made ammunition for an SKS if you prefer.

Fergy35, if the rifle and ammo are both in good shape, it's a fair deal.

i guess i shouldn't have bought my BIATHALON BASIC 22 then either seeing as how it is made in russia. for a gun that runs between 350.00 and 400.00

i thought i did good on it also as i only paid $269.00 otd plus ammo.

maybe we should also quit buying foriegn made cars to you.

Either a joke, or woefully misinformed...?

Thin Black Line,

Now that's a good post. Well done.

As my luck usually goes, someone will probably be there just before me. Hopefully, I'll get lucky this time.

Take care
