I was sitting @ the break table @ work and this guy asked if anybody wanted to buy a .22. Said it was a "Stevens single shot .22 lever action" to which I replied "you mean it's a falling block". He said "yeah I guess".

Anyway he wants $175 for it, which I don't really want to pay when I can get a new gun for about that, but I told him if he doesn't get any other offers I'd give him $125. He didn't have much info on it, said he thinks it was made in the 50's but is going to bring in pictures and more info.

So the question is, is this gun worth paying $125-150 for. I really want a gun that I can shoot shorts and CB caps at tree rats, but I'm wondering if I will lose any accuracy in a chamber/barrel designed for .22 LR.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me on this. I'll post more info as I get it.

I'd go $150 tops, while being a neat little rifle it isn't the most accurate and it's a Stevens. Theres one thats kind of rough in my local GS for $199 and they usually have fair prices on used guns. The one my friend had shot ok, I just don't really care to much for single shot 22's.

The truth is it could also be worth twice that money just as easy. The example on GB will likely bring at least $150 even with some issues. The older guns are hard to find in nice condition, so condition will play a huge roll in the value.

If your looking for a shooter, the well worn ones are also prone to having chamber problems. Back in the day many were shot with shorts and not cleaned well enough to keep the front section of the chamber from corrosion.

There is also variations and most of these old Stevens carry at least some collector value.

If you don't know what you are buying, don't.

There are a lot of different models of Stevens single shots. Some are kind of flimsy, some were well designed but inexpensively made. Most I see are well worn and not what I would pick as a shooter.
