why are 30/06 style rifles so much more expensive than the lever guns.

i was looking in to getting a rifle and was exploring all my options. i looked at the marlin 45/70 guide gun which led me to the browning blr.

the 45/70 is a 5-600 dollar gun the blr on the other hand is a high 7-low 900 dollar gun depending on where you look same with the winchester model 70

so y are i guess modern cartridge rifles so much more expensive.

last thing i hunt pigs and deer down here in florida at what range do you think i should start looking at 308 / 30-06 over the 30-30 / 45-70 cartridges

You are simply looking at a more expensive class of bolt and lever actions. The pretty stocks and more complicated design of the BLR costs more...so does the fact that its a Browning not a Marlin. As for the Winchester; Im pretty sure the M70 is offered in a lower grade at a lesser price, but as im not interested in winchester, i do not know the specifics.

The Stevens 200, Savage Axis, Remington SPS, Marlin XL7 &XS7...and probably a few i dont remember are all cheaper then your average lever gun.

Id say anything outside of 150-200yds and id want a faster round then the .30-30 or .45/70. Not saying they cant do the job out to 200 and possibly beyond, especially with Leverevelution ammo.....but either the .308 or 06 will still shoot allot flatter.

If your serious about using a lever gun, maybe look at the new .308 or .338 marlin express. I believe the guns are running in the mid 6s here...where you are, it might be less.

LoonWulf hit the nail on the head. There are expensive bolt guns, but there are some fairly inexpensive ones as well...the same is true of lever rifles. Often the biggest difference is in the name, but sometimes the workmanship and materials (particularly with respect to furniture) are a bit better.

Also Savage Edge is another budget bolt-gun.
It became the Axis (why they changed the name, I don't know).

:)

Interesting...that may very well be the case. To be perfectly honest I don't care for them much (don't know that there is anything wrong with them, they just look too much like a Remmy 770 & the stock doesn't feel right to me) so I haven't really looked into it.
