What rifle to get?

Here's another vote for a SKS . Judging from your board handle you already have 7.62 x 39 on hand . I love my SKS . Its bone stock with nice wood & is more than capable of Taking "mid size game" at 100 yards . A nice one can still be had in my neck of the woods for $350.00 ish .
Good luck on your decision .

Considering what you already have a what you have listed, I would go with the Remington 7600 in 30-06

Keep in mind that these rifles have fully free-floated barrels. I once had one in 7mm-08 and it was as accurate as any bolt action I've ever owned or shot. Wish I had never sold mine!

With bullet weights available from 110 Gr - 220 Gr, you can't get any more "All Around" than 30-06. Combine the virsitility of the 30-06 with the accuracy, quick handling, and fast follow-up shots of a Rem 7600 and you've got a combination that's hard to beat!

Medium size game makes me think of Whitetail deer or similar. I think I would opt for a lever action in the good old tried and true 30-30. If it wasn't good it would not have stuck around for so many years. Just a good round. Put more venison in the freezer than anything else.

But .30-06 can easily be down-loaded to less than .30-30 ballistics... and there are at least two current factory loads that do just that. Why limit yourself to .30-30 when a .30-06 will do the same and so much more? All this .30-30 vs. .308 Win vs. .30-06 Sprg vexes me. From all I've read the .30-06 is versatile enough to replace them all with the right loads... for medium to large game. If you need a caliber for game or predators smaller than whitetail deer (such as coyote) then get a .223 Rem.

The best part of having different loads for a 30.06 is that you can carry several loads around for different purposes. It's like having a set of rifles instead of just one. You just have to remember what pocket you put each load of ammo in. And you have to remember how to aim them too.

x2 on the browning blr takedown. very nice piece.

from the op's list, i would opt for the marlin 1894 44 mag lever gun because it is one i want and do not have.

I really like the Browning BLR and I'm a huge fan of the 30-06 but I'm not sure I would want a BLR in 30-06. I think the BLR in .308 would be a better choice...

7600. 30-06 is THE North American game cartridge and the Remington pump gun is a proven action.

If a guy/gal is going to own 1 hunting rifle, you can't beat the 30-06. Shoots a lot of different bullets and will take down just about anything but the meanest bears in North America. I've shot one for forty years and it is still my go to gun. For good power (more than .243) for the more recoil sensitive, 7mm08 is my choice.

I agree the 30-06 is a great hunting cartridge but the OP clearly said it might be used for hunting and he's buying just to ADD to his collection. My main hunting rifle is in 30-06 and I agree with you, it's the best for North American game.

Want to noticeably increase the SKS' sight distance, and have a nice aperture sight, all of which improve accuracy?
Tech Sight TS 200. $60 and very easy to install.

The Tech Sight company also produces very specific rear apertures for AKs, Ruger 10-22s, Marlin 60s and a few others.

The biggest problem with SKS accuracy is the ammo used. The imported stuff is limited on what it will do. If you buy the more expensive US made ammo you should see a lot better accuracy.

I do love my 44mag's , I have that Marlin 1894 44mag , and trust me you would take it out hunting more than once , I too have been looking at a 44mag bolt gun (Ruger 77) just because I want a 44mag in every action there is , but a 45-70 would be fun to , ,,,,,,,,, hummmm ... get the 45-70! it too is on my short list ,
