Leopold rifleman

Go to Walmart and get the Leopold Rifleman scope for 199.00. Life time warranty. The best of the low end scopes out there.

Got your answer...

go to e-bay. Do a search for "Burris rifle scope" Number of decent ones there in your $ range. May be other brands. Didn't look.

Burris is optically equal to Leupold and slightly better made internally. Has lifetime warranty.

I'd also look for Leo's and B& L's

Simmons Aetec 2.8x10x44. great scope for the price (140-150 shipped)with a good reliability record. have had one on my 30-06 Handi rifle for almost 2 yrs.

one big plus--- 5" eye relief:D

Rifleman? You can get a VX-I for the same price, right?

Personally, I'd go with a Leupold VX-II/Burris Fullfield II/Bushnell Elite 3200 etc. class scope. You'll pay a bit more than 200 bucks, but you'll see the difference.

love my Bushnell Elite 3200, I think I paid around $240 for it...

You owe it to yourself to check with Grafs and sons, and look at the Optronics scope line. They have a no nonsense return it for whatever reason warranty, and I purchase a 6-24X44 with an illuminated mil-dot reticle from them for ~$70.00. It is rock solid, and I have been very pleased with it. By the way, I am in no way affiliated with Grafs nor Optronics. When doing the research for this scope purchase, I was told that it was made in the same factory that made Tasco and Bushnell scopes.

Most people will poo-poo the BSAs but I have one that's performed very well for me. Kamicosmos had a little less luck but for $15 shipping and handling they sent him a newer, upgraded model to replace his faulty one. Right now I think they're the best value for the dollar and are cheap enough you're not out a ton of money if you upgrade to a "real" scope later.

Nikon

A friend of mine picked up a 3x9 Buckmasters for his 7mm mauser. Very nice scope. Looked very similar to my more expensive 3x9 monarch. Nikon has a lifetime warranty also. I personally own two nikons, the 3x9 monarch and a 4x32 prostaff. Both scopes are very clear and bright. I have been very pleased with them. I have no experience with the Bushnell but everything I have read about them has been very positive. Might wanna look into those aswell.

Ok, back to the standard answer

I've hunted for over 40 years. If the scope doesn't say "fog proof/waterproof" it isn't. If you're target shooting that's one thing. If you're after the buck of a lifetime (as I was) and had the cheap scope fog up during rainy weather (like I did) you wouldn't be so quick to get one

I had a Simmons scope. Wouldn't take another one free. Wouldn't hold zero, fogged up when I saw the 14 point 29 inch spread buck that I had been after for 4 years.

IMO, cheap scopes (Simmons, Atec, Tasco) aren't worth the trouble it takes to mount them.

If you absolutely have to stay low priced, get a fixed Bushnell 4x. Used one for years on my 12 gauge with 3" slugs. Never fogged, never lost zero.

Variables have a lot of moving parts inside that can let in moisture and move around to lose zero. One way to test is to change power settings. If it moves easily, it's loose and and pretty much junk.

Buy good, cry once. Buy crap, and you'll just keep on buying.

REDFIELD.

Used to be made here. Good used ones are reasonably priced. I have a few and like them. The Widefield Lo-Pro is the one I prefer.

The new ones aren't made here, but they are about the exact same scope design. I bought a 2-7 Widefield to mount on a Marlin 1895 .45-70. Works just fine.

I'd recommend looking on GunBroker/GunsAmerica/AuctionArms for a Redfield Widefield Lo-Pro for the money.

Good Luck.
