Hi guys, its been a while.
I have a problem getting caps and would like to know if there is a conversion for my lyman that will allow me to use small pistol primers. I can easily get primers and am using them at the moment with good results but it involves me picking the anvil out, not the safest thing to do but gives great ignition and easy to get.

I have made my own nipe to take primers with the anvil saftly in its place. I don't think the hammer will have enough force to ignite the primer as it takes a good blow from a hammer to make it work.

Any ideas?

Is this a 'customs' issue? As far as just Ordering them from the US or Europe?

No sellers in S.A. of Black Powder related supplies?

Be nice if you could just have the right items, and not have to be fussing with it.

Any possibility of obtaining Berdan primers in your area? They don't have anvils in the primer cup. Seems like Berdans would be just what you need..... if you can get them.

Good luck.

BP supplies are available but a permit is required to buy 11 caps. Our laws are so skrewed up, I have to get a permit from 400km away to buy caps. I can buy primers close by on my 38s license. I cannot stock up on caps either as we are limited as to how many tins we can buy and I only go to town twice a year(I'm a game ranger living between no where and some where). See my problem.

Are small rifle primers the same size as pistol primers, or can you get small rifle primers locally?

The Accra-Shot primer adaptor for the Lyman rifle takes small rifle primers.

See post #5:

The make a very similar adaptor for 209 shotshell primers that's named the Mag Spark adaptor.
Maybe you can send a cheetah into town with a note wrapped around it's neck to give him a steak to eat and also some primers to take back to you! :D

If paper "cap gun" caps are available you can make your own percussion caps with a soda can. How about strike anywhere matches, if you want to pick the heads off. There have been systems that use a primed 2 acp case for the cap, easier to handle than the primer alone.
