Primer Pick Up Tubes

The Dillon tubes are only for "picking-up" primers only, not dispensing. Not sure how the Hornady system works, but if it is like the Lyman and RCBS system, you dispense from the same pick-up tube. On Dillon, you pick-up in one tube, and then transfer them to the dispensing tube which is a separate tube.

I've used RCBS primer pickup tubes with my Hornday LNL AP press. I see no reason the Dillon tubes won't work.

I've also used the Hornady pickup tubes with my RCBS single-stage.

I use the Dillon pickup tubes. They're much easier to use than the Hornady tubes, because the pickup end is softer material and they're much easier to push down over the primers.

The only downside is that they don't fit in the top of the primer tube on the press quite like the correct ones, but it's not a problem. You have to move the pickup tube around on top of the primer tube to get them to feed, but it's no big deal.

I have Hornady and Dillon tubes, and hate the Dillons. I rarely use them. The Hornadys are, to me, much easier to fill. I often fill tubes in advance, and may use them weeks later. The Dillon tubes are too short, so some primers will remain in the plastic tip, unlike the Hornady design which allows you to push them down completely into the metal part of the tube. Primers will jostle loose from the Dillon because of this, and will also flip 180deg in the tube.

I had the same problem until I spread the Hornady tube plastic tips with a tapered punch. Now they work great.

I have the Hornady tubes which came with the LNL AP, but I ordered 10 small Dillon pick up tubes. Dillon tubes are fantastic, never use the Hornadys anymore....

Go Figure....

Not trying to argue, but mine are long enough. I just looked at a filled tube, and took the yellow tip off, and the last one is well down inside the top. The only way I can see the primers flipping is if the soft tip isn't pushed all the way down on the tube. The Hornady tubes hurt my hands if I fill more than a few at a time, and the Dillon ones don't.

That's a good idea. I also thought about taking the hard plastic end off and drilling a new hole for the clevis pin, but they work well enough the way they are that I never got around to trying it.

Well first of all Dillon shipped them to me in 2 days and they are easier to use than the Hornadys. They also gave me a extra one. I really like my Hornady press but I have to give Dillon a thumbs up!

Dillon/RCBS

I use my Vibra Prime to fill the Dillon and RCBS tubes versus the single-primer-at-a-time drill - fits like it was made for them. I have a 550B and a RockChucker with the press-mounted primer feed, and a bench-mounted RCBS primer seater tool. All of them work fine for me. The Dillon tubes have the hole for the little pin too shallow for the RCBS, but I have finally figured it out (or at least to double check). Makes it more interesting...

Well I am having problems with the Dillon tubes, I have only used the small ones but my primers are turning over and creating jambs and of course we dont want upside down primers. I am using the tubes with the yellow tips. I am very careful when loading as not to load them this way. Have any of you had this problem?

Never, and I've loaded 15,000-plus rounds using four Dillon small tubes.

I do know that if the rubber tip isn't pressed down onto the tube all the way to the shoulder inside the tip it could allow a primer to flip. Also, you have to make sure that the hard plastic clip end is tight against the primer tube on the press when you pull the clip.

Dumb question, but are you positive you're using small tubes? There's NO way a primer can flip on mine when it's down inside the tube.

I thought I used the wrong tube but it the yellow tip, the green looks much larger. They also feel like they are pushed on as far as they will go.
