I bought some once fired 308 brass from my local gun dealer. Just now starting to prep it. Man oh man, I cant seem to get the primer pocket reamed down to a level depth. I have always been able to easily just let my Lymen auto prep machine recut and ream the pocket much easier than this new brass . It is stamped PPU 308win.
Is there different depths that some manufactures seat their primers. I have to really work at this stuff. IF I use the little wire bush tool it looks ok then, but I'm thinking it not getting a good level base that way. Will that be a problem if I just ream it good and finish it with the wire brush tool. ?

is it military brass with a crimped primer?

could be your problem.

I have the Lyman prep center too. If I use both the primer pocket uniformer head and the reamer head it always works for me. You have to use the uniformer to cut the depth.

Yes I'm using both. I think the used an old nail to punch the flash hole. because the uniformer cant cut deap enough to level out the bottom of the pocket. Toward the center of the pocket is still untouched, so I'm having to finish it with the wire bush tool. I would like it all to be at the same level. I think this PPU Serbia Partizan brass is not good.

If it is just the center of the pocket it will not make much difference since the anvil seats on the outside bottom of the pocket.

sure, the first time it was shot it would be new and perfect. Now the flash hole has been forced from the explosive cap and I guess which has made the center area of the pocket deeper than the outer edge. The reamer can not reach the bottom. It probably doesnt make any difference like X-ring said. Just woundering, because this is the first time I've had to use the wire brush head thingy to get it clean.
