I'm anal and clean my pistol case pockets. I'd swear that CCI primers leave the pockets much cleaner than Winchester primers. Anyone else notice this? I find I can clean a pocket with a CCI primer with a quick spin of a flat screwdriver... on the other hand Winchester primers need a lot of work to clean with a pocket brush. It's like the residue is glued on!

I clean all my primer pockets, but I've made a machine that makes it easy, so it doesn't matter how much residue is in them. I can clean a couple thousand cases an hour, if my hands hold up. It also depends on the cases, and how easy they are to hold.

you know who's really clean? Independence. Whatever they load in their .45 acps is loud, recoils alot, and cleans up after itself very well.

I hate to break this to you, but you are wasting your time cleaning primer pockets on your ammo, definitely your pistol ammo, you have nothing to gain by doing it.

If you are shooting high power rifle at 600 yards in the Master Class, you do everything possible, but for pistol, don't waste your time. I shot pistol competitively in the Master Class for a number of years, I never cleaned a single primer pocket then or since that time.

Yeah g56 I've been told that. Somehow I have a problem cleaning the brass nice and good and leaving the pocket crappy. I've been reloading for only a few months so who knows if I'll keep it up. Right now I have thousands of rounds of 9mm, .40 and .45 nice and clean. :D

Give it time, I think you'll let it slide eventually. Once you start shooting a couple thousand a month, it becomes a pain to be so anal. However, if it makes you happy, do it. RCBS sells a case prep tool that makes cleaning/sizing the pockets really fast. Look into that if you are tired of the screwdriver method.
