I was thinking about getting some nail polish to use as primer sealant for long term storage. I may get different colors to keep different loads separate also. How is it used, before or after seating the primer?
Put your long-term storage ammo in a good GI ammo can and don't worry about it. Moisture can't get through the lid seal.
The problem with painting primers after they are loaded is, all that paint flaks of inside the gun when you shoot it. Then it gets in the firing pin channel, and other places it shouldn't be.
Factory ammo with sealed primers has the lacquer applied when the primer is seated.
If you want to mark different loads, use different colored Magic-Markers.
Years ago, after a "groundhog outing",I forgot about three .223 rounds (no primer sealant) that were in the pocket of my shorts. They went through the Maytag cycle & they "went bang" when I wanted them to.I'd not suggest counting on rounds after going through that, but I've not worried about sealant since.
Were I in situations where I'd potentially have my rounds under water,I'd use a sealant.
