'Tween swamp and sun!
I've been reloading handgun for about a year now and one of the reasons that I got into reloading is so I can continue to shoot my 25 Krag. It uses a 30-40 Krag casing that is necked down to .25 caliber. Obviously, not a factory load. My cousin reloaded the last batch for me (back in '82!) and I'm getting everything ready to start my own batch. I've been shopping for primers and his recipe calls for 8 1/2 primers. Where I get my primers, they have large rifle primers (Winchester, I think). Are these the same? How do they differentiate rifle primers with the numbers and Large/Small? What are the differences between 8 1/2 and 9 1/2 primers? How do they compare with large/small rifle primers?

thanks for any enlightenment.

Here is some information on primers that might be helpful.

The rule of thumb is when changing a component in a worked up load is to drop the charge 10% and work it up again.

I am not sure Remington 8-1/2 primers are still available.

Large Winchester primers will work just fine, just lower the charge weight and work up the load again.

Hope this helps.
