I recently bought a sp101 in 327, so I'm about to start handload for it. I would like to hear some of your experiences with different primer types. I've heard of some using small rifle primers and small pistol magnum. Anyone tried SPP? What where the results? I don't have any SPM, and only a few SRP, but a ton of SPP.

I have a few suitable powders, and bullets already from loading 32 H&R mag, S&W long, S&W, and 32 ACP.

Titegroup
700x
Unique
Bluedot
Trailboss

Hornady 90gr HBWC
Hornady 90gr SWC
Meister 94gr LFN
Hornady 71gr FMJ (will have to check dia, but probably .310 or so)

Anyone have any loads they like with these bullets and powders?

IMO the only magnum type powder you list is Blue Dot. Medium to slow burning pistol powders will perform better for full power loads. Powders like AA#9, W296/H110, Longshot, 2400, 300-MP and the like will work well. The bullets you list might not work well in the .327 Magnum either. The only jacketed bullet you have is 71gr which is a little light for the .327, a 100gr Hornady XTP bullet would be a good choice and not that expensive.

Velocities can reach over 1500 fps so lead bullets should be chosen well. I think peak pressures are 45,000 psi, considerably higher than the .357 Magnum or .44 Magnum. (35,000 psi and 36,000 psi)

All the data I see calls for a magnum primer so it's probably a good idea to follow the data. It's probably a good idea anyway because of the almost rifle class pressures.

This is all my opinion, take anyone's advice only if you agree.

Ya i will likely skip the 71gr as they will be under sized. I'm not interested in full power load "yet", as the bullets I have cant be pushed that fast without leading. The Meister 94gr LFN is probably the most suitable, so thats where I will start, keeping velocities around 1100 to 1200 fps. I have some S&W longs loaded with the Hornady 90gr HBWC already so that will tide me over til I can work up some loads.

The real question is will SPP be ok or will magnum primers, or SRP be required for these lighter loads? After buying the SP101 my fun money is taped. So I have to work with what I have until I save up.

I have about a 1000 SRP, but 5 or 6000 SPP, and no Magnum primers.

I've been looking at this caliber. Hodgdon has quite a few loads for a number of bullet weights. They are calling for a Small Pistol Magnum primer in all bullet weights and powder combinations. Hornady 9th edition calls for small rifle primers, Alliant's online reloading guide and Lyman's 50th edition manual both call for small pistol primers. From what I've read the 327 is a round that can generate very high pressure, 45,000 psi. Compared with 35,000 for the .357 and 36,000 for the .44 magnum. I'm interested in what 327 re-loaders have experienced with full power loads in regard to the primers used the any signs of over pressure. The 327 looks like a very interesting caliber and reloading for it seems like it could be a lot of fun.

That's two of us who now have mentioned the 45,000 psi peak pressures. That is high.

The reason why Alliant is using a CCI500 primer is unknown but with the powders they are listing it's fine. They don't list pressures but I'm sure they are well below the max. If you use the Blue Dot the primers you already have should be OK. Lyman #50 has Blue Dot data. You can use Unique too, plenty of data in the same manual for Unique.

I shoot Winchester SPP primers in every load I have loaded for my .327fm. I have yet to pierce a primer or have any problems even with my Lill Gun max loads. I haven't tried them with H110 but that is coming. I don't use Lill Gun any more after hearing it sand blasts the forcing cone and barrel leade.

Also going to try AA9 and 2400 with 100 gr XTPs at full load.

I'm not interested in full power load "yet", as the bullets I have cant be pushed that fast without leading.

You can use any SPP for any mid range load that you can come up with in any caliber. .327 Federal Magnum is no different than any other handgun load in that respect. The only time you need to use magnum primers is when using powders that need a magnum primer to reliably ignite it like H110/W296.

The bullets you have listed won't make even medium loads in .327. I would load them down to the velocity they were designed for if I were you.
