Was able to buy primers today, only had to drive 120 miles round trip!

Saw an ad in the local shopping paper from a small shop further upstate.

Called them and yes they had some primers.

Bought 2K small rifle at $32/1000 and 1K large pistol mag at $22/1000. Don't know why the disparity in price. Didn't want the mag type, but I'll try and trade it for regular.

Remembered another shop in the area, he had large rifle for $35 +3% credit card fee + tax. Whew!

I'm afraid to figure out what it came to average/1000 including gas, not to mention time. :uhoh:

I guess at this point I'll just call myself lucky to find anything.

i think we're getting ready to see primers start loosening up again. places that couldn't get any for months are now starting to see some trickle in. i'm still hopeful that by this time next month primers will be a lot easier to find.

I heard the same thing at local gunshop. "Trickling in a bit more often", was the phrase he used.

Well there are none in SE CT. Went to three stores and nothing! I hope they start "trickling in" shortly.

Still can't find anything around here.

It is getting to be a bit depressing. Honestly, I haven't even been on THR quite as much as I normally am, simply because I haven't been doing any shooting...

I like to shoot MY ammo when I go out these days, and to make MY ammo I need primers. I currently have no supply left, so I'm sort of on the bench right now, at least until things become available again.

Obviously, like most gun owners, I've got a stash of "just in case" ammo, but that stuff isn't about to get burned at the range. So, for the time being I've only been shooting during quarterly qualifications at work, and otherwise spending my gun-related time searching for primers and complaining about shortages!

"... and has 8,000,000 total ordered."

I think he might have been exaggerating, just a little. I believe most fire departments have set limits on how many primers can be stored in one location, and it has got to be lower than that figure. Besides, unless he's the distributor and warehouse for a major chain, how can he afford to have approx. $150,000 tied up in one item at the current prices (not to mention the storage space required)?

Good luck RonellCooper. Generally the primer shelves are dead empty at Green Top. Gander Mtn around the corner has deliveries around 12:30 on Thursdays...that's been my best luck around here. I've been able to pick up some here and there on-line...but then there's that 22.50 hazmat fee!

They might as well run yellow tape around the hunting section at my local sportsmans warehouse, its become a complete joke, shelves are cleaned out.

They also had powder at the first place I went to, but I have enough already.

Felt guilty about stashing some.

The 8,000,000 is real. He does not expect to get them in at one time, just a trickle here and there. They will sell about as fast as they come in, no prob. He also has been supplying other stores lately, he has found out. :banghead:

He has a list of folks to call when he gets some in, I'm down for 60k when they come in. Until he gets his inventory back up he will be limiting to 10k at a time to spread it around.

just waiting on the phone to ring...........

I found a brick of SP last week $22.40 - Mags but they can be used for standard loads.
when the supply is back up I'm sure gonna put away a couple thou of each I use for 'if'.
I had no idea that things would get this bad so quick.

Found the pics....

That's not well stocked. you can see the wall in lots of places. And they only have about 30k primers left, none in SP, which is what I was after. :cuss::banghead::cuss:

That's not well stocked. you can see the wall in lots of places.

what's sad is there's more powder, primers, etc in those pictures than i've seen in the past 12 months (including trips to shops on the south side of houston)!! :(

there are times when i think to myself " I live in texas now. So why's it harder to find shooting supplies here, than it EVER was in NC?"

I was able to pick up 3,000 small pistol and 2,000 large pistol yesterday for $32.95/1,000, not the best prices but at least I found some. They said they had been waiting on this order since December. I also picked up 4 pounds of Universal powder but still no Varget and no small rifle primers. I can hold out for a few months before I run out of them.

I got 1000 Winchester small pistol locally today for $27.95. He had 2K more but I didn't want to be greedy. I've now got 2700 small pistol primers total. This should fill my needs for a while. I believe the supply if going to start increasing.

All the Best,
D. White

I found 1,700 SP Magnum primers at the local Gouger Mt. Had to pay a bit more, but I really needed them.

I bought a 5k case of Federal 205M SR Match Primers last week, and another 1k this week. You just gotta look.

I was in Granger Guns in Granger, IN (South Bend) yesterday. He's got a LOT of powder, bullets. No primers. He had Varget, lots of IMR, VV. Nice shop.

Other than competition shooters (sass, idpa, etc), why do we truly need thousands up on thousands of primers and components?

Don't get me wrong, I'm just as guilty of hoarding my little stash (which is nearly nothing compared to a lot of heavy hitters here) but I realize that I have about 10-20 years worth of conservative shooting supplies/ammo at my disposal now.

I guess the main reason why I hoard is that I fear the unknown and the unknown is our political climate. If our hobby wasn't "under the gun" so often, I imagine that supplies would be much cheaper than they are now.

Anybody want to do a face to face trade? I have several thousand LR, SR, LP, SP from CCI. But I need 1k CCI #34 so I can load up for a semi auto. Let me know if you have a brick of that and need something else.

Thanks,
Craig
