Whats been everyone's experience on turn around time from the online vendors that are accepting backorders on primers?

Just browsing around I noticed Cabela's was accepting backorders with expected 3-4 weeks. How about other sites you visit? And are they back to getting semi regular shipments yet? and being able to fulfill their backorders?

I've seen ammo flowing back through, not up to plentiful but a steady pace at least. I haven't done any loading in a long time so I don't know the current state of the supply chain.

I sell bullets for the purpose of handloading for a living and I can tell you that right now the most frustrating thing for my business is that my customers are not buying as many bullets as they would like because they still can't get primers for them. I have had several people tell me that they would buy a lot more bullets from me if they could just get the primers to shoot them. It seems to me that if someone were to be able to get a loan and a machine to make them, there would sure be a lot of money to be had these days. Anyone can make bullets, but primer makers are few and far between.

Yeah, they say 3-4 weeks. Then after about 6-8 weeks, you can call them and they'll tell you they're due in the store ONE WEEK AGO! I've had small pistol primers on order from them since MARCH and I'm still waiting. They also try to sneak out an email that says something like "if you don't call us, we'll remove you from the back order" and they will, too. I ordered some rifle primers in June, and they were due into the store in one week. I'm still waiting. To be fair, they did ship the rifle primers I ordered in March. Got them in August.

I like Cabelas, but I've found a problem with their "estimates". I think they went to weather forecasting school.

Cabela's has been a real disapointment. I ordered 5000 Federal small pistol primers and 5000 Federal Large pistol primers back in late 2/09. Then they had promiced delivery in March, no such luck. It's been the same delay ever since. I am sure some body is getting primers from them but not me.

Talked to Powder Valley the other day before placing a order for some powder. They said they are expecting another shipment of the Wolf Primers soon. As for Cabelas I have had 4 boxes of 22lr on backorder for about 3 months and as Gadzooks Mike posted if you miss their email they will drop your order.

I bought some over on Gunbroker a few weeks ago. I just looked and there are several guys selling them there. e.g. 5000 NEW WOLF Small pistol PRIMERS PRIMER - $170. Not a "give away" but he does seem to have them in stock.

You can get primers, not as many as you may want, but they are flowing. Try hitting up a local ammo manufacturer if there is one to see if they'll sell you a box or two.

Went to my local shop today. They had maybe 18,000 rifle and pistol primers on the shelf.

Lots of Remington SR, Federal SR, CCI SR's, some LP's. I already had maybe 5-8k Federal SR's, but I bought 1k more. IIRC, they were $40/k. Get 'em while you can. Leave some for others. When I left there were still 6 boxes of Federal SR's on the shelf. Probably 6k or more of Remington SR's.

Store owner said they're coming in on a regular basis. Federal are still the hardest to get.

Blythe's in Valparaiso, IN.

When Cabela's says 3-4 weeks, that's when they expect the shipment. Of course, in order to actually get the primers you need to be at the top of the list.

Well I'm on the bottom of list then lol! I went ahead and ordered some and waiting is fine for me. I haven't loaded in a long time and when I did it was under the eye of my uncle. I've got a couple manuals I'm reading on and a couple more books on the way. Honestly by the time I get through those and decide on equipment the primers will have found their way to me.

Good luck with that. Unlless you are looking at about 6 months before you start loading. Besides the backlog on primers. popular powder types and equipment in popular calibers is not that easy to come by either.

Honestly it will probably be that long or longer. Wish it were different, but I've got a lot of irons in the fire as of late. I'm going to start out with 38/357 since thats what I do the most range work with and have a closet full of good brass. Reading about anything related is almost as fun to actually shooting in my opinion so it works for me. It would be awesome to get everything together sooner, but no use in getting worked up about things out of my control.

More than anything I was just curious about the current state of primer supply. I see a lot of threads around here about ammo, but not so many updates on primers and such.

Graf & Sons just called me today- my order for CCI SP primers placed in April finally was shipped out today. It was a LONG wait, but I was able to get by getting anywhere from 400 to 1000 at a time at my local dealer (at 4$ per 100). Grafs was great, as they charged me the original price I backordered them at- $109 per 5000.

For that matter, Grafs has only raised them 1$ per 5000 since...

At $22 per thousand, I'd get a BUNCH. If guys didn't learn their lesson and start stocking up slowly, it's their fault this time.

Grafs called me yesterday, getting the 10K CCI SP that have been backordered since April. Still waiting on the LP and SR though.

The Cabela's in Lacy WA had about six bricks of small pistol primers on the shelf a couple weeks ago. I was looking for large pistol primers, so I didn't get any. The Outdoor Rec Center on Ft Lewis had small pistol as well, and I've been seeing them in some local gun shops.

Dealer told me Federal were by far the toughest to get. I was told that basically none shipped for civilian use for maybe 4-6 months. A few are back now,

Just received this while it is not for primers it shows that they put unreasonable availablity dates on their stuff. When I ordered these about 3 months ago they stated 1 WEEK backorder :

Cabela's strikes again.

Today my order from March, some of which is still on back order, has dropped off my "view" when I log onto "my account" at the Cabela's website. When I called, I was assured that the stuff was still on back order, but because it's six months old, doesn't show up where I can see it anymore. The operator was very nice, and I understand that it's not her fault, so I couldn't really gripe much. I did ask her to pass on my concerns to those higher up, but I doubt it will do any good.

I believe I'm done with Cabela's.

Powder valley inc still has wolf primers 25.50 per 1000 I cancelled my order from Cabelas , they were stringing me along for months , and got all i needed from powder valley.
