I primed about 50 308's yesterday on the Lee hand prime. Today, I've got a sore hand. I tried to prime on the press, but several of the primers did not seat below the case rim. I've looked at the new Lee bench primer, but there is just too much plastic to break for my tastes. The other consideration is the RCBS bench primer-not the one that uses strips. Does anyone have any experience with this one?

I have the ribs bench top primer. I love it I use it all the time to prime 223 it doesn't take much pressure at all to seat the primers

I have a RCBS hand primer which I use for pistol only. My brother in law has the RSBS bench primer and he loads nothing but rifle and it works really well. He has so many different calibers I lost count. I've used his and it is slick.

Take that Lee hand job apart then grease all moving parts where they touch one another. Reassemble it then clean your hands. Try priming cases again.

Some primers are big enough to not seat easy in cases with small pockets if there's more than a .002" interference fit. Measure their diameters to see the difference.

I have used my RCBS bench primer for 20+ years. I've had to replace the tubes a few times but otherwise no problems. The RCBS is well worth the money. A top-notch tool. Very easy to use.

What press do you use?

I bought a CH4D swage & prime to go on the top of my press & I really like priming that way. I know a few others that have used it as well & I have never heard anyone that has used one not like it. I would suggest if you got that route to order a extra post so you have one for both priming systems. I hate changing that little screw.

I have used my RCBS bench top primer so long, I forget which decade I ought it. It was either the 70's or 80's. Real simple and seats the primers below flush. I never looked for a different one, because it works. The strips may be faster, but it is not a speed contest in my reloading room. It seats both large and small primers , and every once in a while I put a little oil where the eccentric cam pushes the primer rod up. Simple is as simple does.

Another vote for the CH4D combo prime/swage tool. I already had the Lee Ram Prime but purchased the tool to swage primer pockets with ease. I also use the old style Lee round Hand Primer and prefer that. But you do have to work up in steps to doing a large batch of primers or your thumb will complain a bunch.

RCBS bench mounted primer. I'm on my second one. I used the first one so much I wore out the handle, and when I contacted RCBS about buying a new handle, they simply sent me a whole new machine.

I've primed as many as 200 rounds of 5.56 with my RCBS hand primer and have never had a sore hand with that device. I have the Forster press and that makes priming very easy too, sorry I can't give info you asked for.

Only put as many primers in the tube as you are going to use this time. If you remove a loaded tube from the unit all of the primers in it will fall out of the tube and scatter worse than you can imagine. Other than that it is a great tool and a real hand saver.
