After running out of the RS powder, I decided to try a bottle of SELECT. I lost my group, bigtime! Short on time, losing daylight, I had still had plenty of time for around 8 loads with plenty of cool down, and swabing time between shots.
What I did notice was considerably more smoke also a lot of powder was smoldering on the ground in front of me out to around 14'. I was using a Fed. 209A, and 85gn. powder, 240 hp/xtp and a Harvester green ribbed sabot. Avg. 1640fps. I also tried 80 and 90gr. Still sporadic. I also noticed my sabots were taken a beaten. Torn and missing peddles. I never had that with the straight RS.
After thinking about it, I was hitting my usual forum's checking out primmer threads. I'm thinking the Fed. primmer is just to hot for the Select. The only plus I had was it did seem to foul a little less.
I came accross a site on testing the strength of a primmer. I was able to come up with 2 other primmers I had. Win. and Cheddite. It turns out the Cheddite was the weakest. Hoping to get out today an try each of them to see if it will make a difference.
