Hello, I have a friend fairly new to long guns, (his gross experience revolves around a bersa .380 he grew up shooting with his dad) he has come to range days with me and he and his family really enjoyed it. They finally decided to get an ar15 in .223 wylde. I'm trying to help him find an optic to suit his purposes. He liked my romeo7 but his wife's astigmatism (like my wife's) didn't find it as nice as he did. Since the last time we shot together, I have acquired a 2x mp from bushnell (discontinued) that has a red/green t reticle that went straight to the wife's ar with great approval. We've agreed that for his purposes, a circle dot, triangle dot (romeo5 predator), horseshoe dot, chevron, t type, or even maybe a crosshair reticle would be great. The most ideal setup would involve a shake awake feature but that may not be a make or break feature. Non red sights would be most ideal for the astigmatism. The primary arms 3x32 compact gen III might be a little busy I'm thinking. Based on recent discussions, I think his budget will be $300 or less. What options are out there?
P.s. I just thought of something, at a local gun show there was a dealer for osprey(?) Optics, what do we know about them?
Eta curious about magnification as well, my optics designated for indoor use (not saying they don't go out to the ranch) are 1 and 2x is 3x too much? My 3-9x40 seems to really be limited at indoor ranges around the 30' mark, precise yes, but harder to "drive" if you will?
