Google or Bing your question under images adding the words royalty free or non copyrighted in your search. You can always make your own if you can not find any that you like. If you do not know how to do it I would gladly make one for you if you tell me exactly what you want and do so fairly quickly. After this Tuesday I will be out of action in that department for a long while. If you find one you like and it is the wrong size I can resize it too if you do not know how.

Why should one worry about copyrights if it's for private use on one's own computer?

Taking and using copyrighted works for even for personal use is without permission is in fact theft no matter how you look at it. No different than any other form of piracy. How would you like it if you spent your time and money creating something for yourself or sale and a thief came and took it and told you "Oh it is just for my own personal use" how would you feel? Plus and most importantly it is the law.

I would just create my own using my own images. Why? Well I figure it this way, when it comes to our guns many of us like to really get into personalization and for many when it comes to our computer wallpaper our personalization desires extend onto our computer screen. It's one thing to have a gun image or gun slide show running as wallpaper, it's something else all together when the guns pictured are ours. Can't begin to say how many Ruger 10/22 rifles I have seen pictured on these forums where I spent 10 min looking at the image before I actually saw the 10/22 rifle, the same is true for SKS, AK and AR15 variations. People love to customize and personalize their guns. :)

You also do not need a $1,000 software photo editing package to produce and work up your images. Free photo editing software that works fine is abundant out there with Infranview coming to mind. There are others also.

Just My Take....

Deviant Art .com?

If sum1 publishes an artwork there or on flickr,
it can be assumed to be intended to be free for personal
uses such as Wallpaper.

Usually highdef printable versions of the pics
are not available.

(IMHO if that use is "theft" it`s time to buy Alcoa stock.)

How could it be called theft if there's no profit to be made by the private user, or economic loss by the originator? If it's online and you bring it up on your computer, is it "theft" at that point just to look at it without even using it as wallpaper?

I thought that was "Fair Use."

I'm not clear on that. I think we have an intellectual property attorney on the board, perhaps he can answer that.

As has been said with doing a bing image search (google is anti-gun) many gun companies have their own wallpaper, so try checking out some sites of companies you like.

It doesn't matter if it there is no profit to be made. There is a difference be using a piece of digital media that is public domain or royalty free for non profit and using copyrighted digital media. By the No Electronic Theft Act and the Digital Millennium Copyright Acts, Pleading a lack of knowledge about copyright infringement laws will not excuse the user from legal consequences which include a max of three years in prison and up to a $250,000.00 fine. You can read up on the No Electronic Theft Act here and the The Digital Millennium Copyright Act here So please do yourself a favor and and look for public domain works or royalty free photos and works. I like the calender wallpapers made each month by Mark Fingar @ Larue Tactical. Beautiful photos given away every month for this purpose.

...and eff the DMCA...;)

There are plenty of free to use military and non military wallpapers online. Just do a search. I have some Seal wallpaper for years. It's already sized for different resolutions. Just type what you want into whatever search engine you use.

That was one of the points I forgot to add. With so much free stuff out there why would you want to take something that is copyrighted and take the chance of going to prison and have huge fines. Anything I would have made for him would be my own photos and my own work.

Why not just use photographs of your own firearms? Or there are many beautiful photos posted right here on THR. I'm sure some of the members would be honored if you sent them a PM for permission to use the pictures of their guns. I use a "Group" picture of my S&W's.

I agree with the "take your own" camp.

I have been amazed lately with the quality I get from just my phone, paying nominal attention to lighting and composition, then tweaking with a very simple photo editor app that was free. No light boxes or anything of the sort.

I don't claim to be anywhere near a professional, not even a true hobbyist, but learning to play with a few little things has drastically improved the shots I have taken when I have an idea or am even just bored.

As a fr'instance, here is my current computer wallpaper. Taken with my old phone with a less advanced camera while I was just messing around on my in-law's ranch one morning. It's not my favorite, or even one that turned out the best. Other than being one of the better pics of my M1. I find handguns are easier to photograph, as I can get closer in. I have jokingly referred to this as my "country load-out."

Composition could be better, there is a slight blur and it really bugs me that I didn't have the keepers on the sling snugged down. But for an earlier attempt that just graces the screen on my laptop, it works.

lmgtfy.com is a great resource for that. just search "pro gun wallpaper" and you are connected to hundreds of pictures that suit your need

What could be more pro-gun than the President shooting?

Don't think I have anything bigger, but if you set a black background, it blends seemlessly.

If you find someone's artwork online that you'd like to use as wallpaper for your computer, send them an email asking for permission for such use. Most will be happy to oblige. If not, no loss. Find something else.
