Stuck up here (rural Missouri) and got Dixie on my
So on Saturday, my wife bought me a belated birthday present (The belated part was my fault, not hers). It is my first Mosin Nagant M91/30. I haven't shot it yet, but I am really loving it. I have been reading all over the Internet about Mosins, and I am fascinated by the sense of history that oozes from from these weapons (I swear it is history that is oozing, not cosmoline.).

Now here is the problem: did you notice I said "It is my first Mosin Nagant?" I am already thinking I want all the variants and maybe some other milsurp rifles. Even if I don't like shooting them (which I will), I love the history that lives in my hands when I hold it (Yeah. Yeah. I know, I am waxing both melodramatic and overly parenthetical, but I can't help it.). Anyway, back to my problem: between the Mosin and the Mossberg 20 gauge I bought for my daughter this weekend, MY SAFE IS FULL! I have no more room.

On top of all this, I got my hands on that new break-down Ruger 10/22, and I must have one!

What shall I do?

Uh oh! Sounds like you're doomed. I'm afraid of getting dragged in myself as my LGS has a package deal of a Mosin (91/30 I think) and 440rds of ammo for it for a total of $199. Sounds like a great deal to me but that's almost half of the cost of the XD9 that I'm trying to save for. I feel your pain! Good luck.

Simple, hang your Mosin(s) on a wall as art to enjoy.
If you want them temp unshootable for safety just remove the bolt (real easy) and put it in the safe.

Ohh, you're toast.

Welcome to the Wonderful (you) / Painful (spouse) world of Mosinitis. The only cure is more Mosins, especially Finns.

BTW: I have 3 safes.

I have seen this before, Mosinitis of the shooting lobe. There is only one cure, and that is to listen to CNN propaganda for 8 hours a day every day. Warning side effects may include lack of interest in personal freedom, drowsiness, stiff neck, incontinence, a desire to vote for liberals with anti American interests, and difficulty sleeping.

Seriously though, Mosinitis is a good disorder that few complain about. Don't get cured.

You're golden, boy. You can get yourself a new safe, and blame it on the wife for giving you Mosinitis. Since it's incurable (in normal humans, anyway) you can get the big safe, since as the disease progresses, the only relief (more Mosins) will require a sizable 'medicine cabinet'.

i feel his pain. i need another safe too because my favorite mosin sits leaned against my dresser this is not good. plus it gets dusty. this is my 5th mosin all the different models of wwll.

no problem

you can go the cheaper route and NOT get a new safe--just get the mosins still coated in cosmoline and bury them in your back yard....

Do what TurkeyOak said. :)

I have a pretty large safe. Now I figure it this way. The gun safe contains all my high end guns and those of sentimental value to me. It also contains my wife's higher end jewelery as well as general important papers. Anything of significant value resides in the safe. The lower end stuff remains out. I can place a claim for a $200 rifle with my insurance company sans a problem. Trying to recoup the loss of a high end match rifle is another story. Even though we have pictures and a list including serial numbers of every gun in the house.

A simple cheap solution is go to Gander Mountain, Wal-Mart or wherever and buy a cheap long gun safe. Then lag it to the deck and fortify it a little. While not quite a high end fire proof security solution it will offer some protection against theft.

Here is an example of what I am getting at. A simple 10 gun system that can be beefed up for an initial cost of $179 (less than the cost of most Mosin Nagant rifles.

Just My Take

I don't seem to have this problem. I just bought an M44, . . . and am good. Good luck finding a remedy for your affliction.

I, on the other hand, also have an M44....and look forward to getting a number of other Mosin variants.
