Problem depriming

Just recently a buddy of mine gave me a bunch of once fired winchester 9mm brass. The headstamp says WIN 9MM LUGER. I am having trouble depriming most of the cases. I have to run it several times to get the primer to eject on my Dillon 550. These are the only cases I am having trouble with. All other headstamps deprime flawlessly on the first shot. Is anyone else having this issue?

Adjust the depriming rod down a tad more.

Check to see if the primer is a crimped in the case, I assume these are once fired factory cases.

If not...

Polish the end of the decapping rod.

Adjust the position of the decapping rod as gamestalker said.

Adjust you decapping pin position to be slightly lower.

Thanks for the tips! I didn't realize that the decapping pin is adjustable on the Dillon dies. I was under the impression that it had to be screwed on tight to the threaded rod.

According to Dillons die instructions, the handgun decapper is spring-loaded to eject the spent primer off the pin when it clears the case.

Make sure it isn't bound up or stuck and staying compressed inside the die.

It might also be that the primer anvil is getting over the sharp square end of the pin.

Rounding & polishing the end may help that.

Thank you kind sir! I will check the end of the decapping pin to see how sharp it is. I did pull the die apart to make sure something was not bound up in there and everything looks good. The weird part is, this only happens with the Winchester brass. I have loaded thousands of rounds of other brands with not one problem.

Are the primers crimped?

It can be caused by the different shape or hardness of the win primer anvils crimping themselves over the end of the pin.

Rounding slightly and polishing it slick should help.
Maybe try an occasional dab of sizing lube on the pin too so the anvils won't stick too it..

The primers are not crimped. I have some crimped FC brass that are crimped and removing them is not a problem. I will get to rounding the pin and polishing this week as soon as I get some free time.

Oops, forgot about this thread! So I rounded the decapping pin and polished the crap out of it and was still having the same problem. I contacted Dillon about it and they said my press was out of alignment which I still don't understand why I was only having problems with one brand of brass. I aligned the press with the tool they sent and all seems well. I loaded 200 rounds this past weekend during the blizzard we had and all seems well!
