problem with m1 garand

the m1 garand i have has a serious problem. instead of ejecting the en bloc clip after the 8th round has fired, as would be expected, the clip is prematurely ejected randomly. since this problem started i have not been able to fire through a full 8 rounds. sometimes it ejects after the 1st, sometimes after the 5th...completely random. very frustrating. any ideas what might cause this?

Sorta very vaguely remember..check both the actual clip latch for wear, and see if the spring is working the latch as designed.

I can sorta remember something odd-ball about another part causing this, too...but I can't remember what.

Swampy or eclancy or one of the other real Garand Gurus will be by shortly with the correct solution.

Could be any one of several causes but the most likely is a worn clip latch or a compressed clip latch spring.

Easiest temp fix is to stretch the spring and see if that makes a difference. If not, then a new clip latch may be the next "fix" to try.

mine did that also, and I replaced the clip latch spring and now it works fine..
