So I put a few rounds through my new 1895 .450 and to my disgust it didn't eject the spent cases reliably. After I fired the gun I would push the lever forward and when I attempted to pull it back it wouldn't move. When I checked the ejection port the empty case was sitting in the port and the live round was on the elevator directly below it. Has any one had this problem with their Marlin lever gun? This is my first lever action rifle so it's entirely possible that it is something I'm doing. I was shooting new Hornady custom ammo loaded with 350 grain interloks.

This is my false sense of security for bears so it needs to run.

Any help is appreciated.

Probably an ejector problem. If it was something with the extractor it wouldn't extract the spent casing from the chamber.
I'd check and make sure that the ejector is there. It sounds like maybe they screwed up when they built it at the factory.
If there is no ejector or it's somehow messed up or incorrectly installed, it might be easy enough that you could fix it yourself.
If that's the case, maybe you could call Marlin, fill them in, and ask for a replacement part.

It doesn't sound like you're doing anything wrong with working the action. As long as you're cycling it the whole way it should at least be trying to eject.

Also how many rounds did you put though it? Sometimes what happens is that fouling causes the spent case to get stuck with gunk and the ejector doesnt grab on enough to yank it out. Once you get the shell out inspect where the casing sits. If it is all gummed up, that might cause the case to stick. Clean that out and go again.

This happened to me a few times when i started shooting lever action marlins. It hasnt happened since I started shooting cleaner ammo though.

I'll check the ejector but the gun is brand new and has only seen about 10 rounds through it. I'll go home and check the ejector but it seems to function fine with live ammo when I unload it. The problem arises when I attempt to eject a fired case. It doesn't make much sense to me.

If you don't snap the lever forward firmly you can experience this type of failure.
Operate the lever in a positive manner as you can't hurt it and it is intended to be operated smartly with no hesitation. If you are doing this and still have the problem then I agree with the earlier post that your ejector is probably MIA.
