Last night I was changing the mainspring housing on my Para-Ordnance P16-40 Signature series (from flat to flat checkered). All was good until I finished and function checked the gun. Now I could not engage the safety (after the gun was cocked), it felt like something was obstructing/preventing the safety from flipping up. And I could not take the firing mechanism apart to see what was wrong, very frustating. Please help.

It might be that you put the three finger leaf spring in out of place and it is not leting the shear engage properly. If so you need to remove the mainspring and the leaf spring and try again.

Thanks fats, I carefully did that and make sure the spring leaves were correctly positioned, but the problem still presist.

Just a dirty gun

After I took the slide/barrel apart and did a complete cleaning, the problem went away. I suspected there was a debris on the gun that prevented the slide to completly go into the most forward position. Eventhough the gun was not actually out of battery (the hammer could be dropped when I pulled the trigger), the safty notch on the slide did not correctly line up with the safety (thus it could not be engaged). Guess I learned somthing new today, Thanks.
