I just bought a new Windham Arms 308 a few weeks ago. I took it to the range a couple time since and it worked pretty much flawlessly, until yesterday that is. I scoped it on Sunday and snuck away to the range yesterday to see how accurate this thing really is. The good news is that even with the lack of a bi-pod , good rest, free float tube and better trigger this this is right at 1 inch at 100 yards. The bad news is that I pretty much have a $2400, including accessories, single shot rifle that looks like an AR-10. Most of the time the bolt would not feed a new round into the chamber after ejecting the spent case. Other times, it left the spent round in the chamber and twice it jambed while feeding the new round. I tried 3 different mags and two different types of ammo. Two of the mags had previously been used with problem as had one of the amm types. For the record I used Federal 147 M1-A ammo and Federal Match with 175 SMKs. The only thing I have done to this gun in between was add a new forend, vertical grip, CTR stock and Scope. I have not cleaned or lubed the gun since I got it and it has had under a hundred rounds total. What is the problem? I will be cleaning and lubing it before my next trip.

By all means clean and lube the rifle. Many manufacturers ship them dry, I can't speak for Windham Arms. Next, could anything you did have had an effect on the gas system? Sounds a little like the rifle is short stroking as the magazines functioned before and the ammunition functioned before.

I had a similar issue with my ar15. I took it home released the rear pin on the upper tilting it up. I immediately discovered the little buffer pin had popped out. Never found the spring must have flown out when I tilted the receiver. I got a new buffer retainer pin and spring and have had no problems.

A lot of times you do not get what you pay for and a DPMS is about half and they are accurate. You will probably find out what is wrong with it anyway hope it is something small. I would check the chamber for some rough spots and the extractor happened to me and I polished the chamber and replaced extractor and all was well

It sounds like you already have a good idea how to fix your problem. :)

If that doesn't work, I wouldn't fool with it too much. Just make Windham fix it.

Same thing that was wrong with the 1st M-16s. Lack of cleaning & lack of lubrication equals malfunctions.

Any petroleum like substance that is on a new gun is not there for lubrication. It's either on there to inhibit rust during distribution and/or leftover from manufacturing. Some manufacturers are better than others (cleaner) but none are properly lubed.

I very thoroughly clean all firearms before I put even a single round through them.

Did you remove the gas block when you put the new fore stock on? Could be gas block out of alignment, doesn't take much movement on the gas block to turn your rifle into a single shot.

Yes that happened to me with the gas block and as you said it was off very little. as far as it not working because the guy did not clean it to me that is a condemnation of the system. If a battle grade semi auto would not work when new because I did not clean or not marinate it in a barrel of oil it I would have to really force myself not to destroy it with a sledge hammer so I could send it back for a refund

took it to the range again

I gave it a quick lube and it ran fine. I had one fail to feed with a brand new C-products mag but all others ran fine. I am still not convinced that all is right with the world. The brass only goes about 5 feet and falls into a neat little pile. While it makes picking up brass a breeze I am concerned that the gun is not getting enough gas. I did not change the buffer tube or spring. The fore end that I had installed was very tight. I suppose that if the gas block wasn't on tight enough it could have shifted. Am I too concerned about how far it is throwing brass?

It is not that the gas block is not on tight enough it is that the hole in the barrel does not line up with the hole in the gas block. Just a tiny bit off and you will see the same problems you are having.
