Does anyone else have problems with this ammo? This is the discount .40 from wal-mart. I find that recently purchased boxes of this seem to shoot very dirty, with both a lot of soot and large amounts of fine brass powder residue. I also find that sometimes it shreds the jackets and fails to eject from my Glock and SA-XD. Did not used to have any problems with it. Anyone else experiencing this?

I've shot it fine from my P229. And that was recently. I thought it was just fine. Good accuracy even at 50 yards.

Why does everybody whine about ammo being "dirty"? I don't think I've ever seen my gun after a day of shooting and said WOW THAT WAS SOME CLEAN AMMO!! It all looks the same. If you shoot your gun, it's going to get dirty. I don't see that as an issue even if you did notice it. You should clean it regularly anyway.

i've used this ammo for about a year. it does seem to have been cleaner ammo in the past. in fact, when i first used it, i was amazed when i noticed how clean it was, especially for the price.

i also noticed it's the only ammo that keyholes when fired from several of my 40cals.

seems quality has slipped a little on this brand. it's still light years better quality than reminton umc though. umc is the only ammo line i've complained to the manufacturer about because of consistent horrible quality...

This.

If a box of Acme Supercriticalpowerjello hollow points (with the expanding carbon fiber volcano nose cavity) is on sale and cheaper than anything else- I could care less if it is dirtier than something more expensive.

Cheap ammo= shoot a lot:D:D:D
Shoot a lot= dirty gun
Dirty gun= cleaning:eek::eek::eek:

As i will clean my gun anyway, the price is the deciding factor- not how dirty it is.

These guys got it right with not caring about dirty ammo. I can see why one would avoid corrosive ammo, and personally will not use any in a semi-auto gun of any kind, but even then it's not a HUGE deal.

But to complain that ammo is dirty? Heck, I like really dirty ammo. I know that if my M&P9 can shoot 150 rounds of the cruddiest, nastiest ammo ever and not have a single hiccup, then the 5-6 rounds of premium hollow points when they are truly necessary is a walk in the park. It gives me confidence in my guns to know that they will run the dirtiest stuff there is and still perform flawlessly.

As for that stuff jamming up your Glock, we all know that's impossible. Just ask Reaper.

...

I traded 10 boxes of PMC 9mm for 10 boxes of this Federal 40cal with a bud and other than, yep, it is dirty, kinda like PMC, but either my Sig P229/40 or my Beretta Px4 40 have had, any, no, problems thru all but 1 box left..

BTW, have had none of the copper residue issues you've noted in either gun, as well.

Somebody said one time a few months ago in a thread started about this exact ammo that the "jacket" isn't really a traditional jacket. They said it looked more like copper plating on the lead. That might be what you're seeing. I thought the same thing about mine, since the bullet looks a little strange in terms of texture. Still nothing to worry about. Shoot it up!

I have been shooting a lot of Federal Red Box in .40S&W for the past year. It's a slightly milder load but aside from that, no issues whatsoever. Have you taken a look at your ejectors? Also, being that it is a little milder, could the issue be caused by limp-wristing?

Have shot about 10 boxes of 9mm through my XDsc with no issues. Love the price.

600 rounds of 9mm through CZ PCR, no problems. Cleaner than UMC, but the pistol gets cleaned after each session so I dont care. Here I think its $9.47 a box, almost always in stock.

Thank you. You saved me from typing this same thing. Stop whining. If you shoot a lot you have to clean your fire arms a lot.

I shot 4 boxes saturday along with a 100 of wwb and both were very nice shooting ammo. I have not had a problem with the Federal.

Some people whine about it because the ammo is dirty enough that after shooting for a while, their gun stops functioning correctly. Some of them aren't just acting like prissy girls that can't handle not being clean.

I'm glad to see someone has posted this. It's exactly what I think every time I see the dirty powder issue.

Dirty? Who cares? It's not like you aren't going to clean your pistol if you shoot "clean" ammo. Just buy the Federal and clean your pistol after like you should either way. I go through Federal .40 like it's going out of style. To me it just equals more range time. I don't want to find myself unhelpful in a bad situation where my carry weapon was needed because I skipped range time so I wouldn't have to clean off from the "dirty ammo".

It's good stuff; I use it when I can find it and never hesitate to buy it when I see it. I don't find it to be any more dirty than anything else on the market these days.

Have used it in both 9mm and .45, never a problem. Dirtier? Maybe. Matters not to me, as I clean my guns after every use
