I recently purchased a Rock Island 5" 1911 and really like the accuracy with which it shoots. I only have less than 200 rounds through it, but I seem to have at least one failure to feed per mag.

I feed it Winchester White, CCI Blazer Brass and Speer lawman all 45 ACP FMJ.

The magazines I have are the 1 that came with the gun and 2 Kimbers that I purchased as after market.

Is the gun not broken in yet? Am I doing something incorrectly when I load? I usually have the slide open when inserting the magazine. I then load the chamber either by releasing the slide stop lever or manually pulling the slide backward and letting it fly forward.

Try some different mags, Some guns just don't like certain mags that another gun will have no trouble with.I have had good use out of Wilson Combat mags.

Describe the feed failure. Nose dive, almost certainly a magazine issue, Round not getting up under the extractor, the extractor might be too tight.

A photo of the failure helps a lot with the diagnosis.

My RIA long slide Match Target was 100% first time out. Was having feed problems with some mags second time out and most every mag third time out, after I'd checked the extractor. Then I noticed there were no issues when I was shooting Wolf ammo independent of magazine, and issues with most everything else.

Turned out there was a burr on the under side of the slide at the bottom of the breech face cut on the opposite side of the extractor. The Wolf cases were just smaller enough at the rims to slip by, whereas most brass rounds would hang on the burr causing a feed failure.

Few stokes of a small file to remove the burr and its all good now.

If you keep having problems RIA customer service has been very good.
