Howdy, y'all,

I turned eighteen this past week and, owing to my utter obsession with the kinds of guns that a lot of stores aren't all that likely to stock (first thing I'm gonna get when I've the dough is an FR-8) I was wondering what I'd do to go about transferring an item through my friendly local FFL when buying something from, say, for instance... Gunbroker.com?

By the prodedure, I mean, what ought I to do about
A) inquiring whether the store does out-of-state transfers
B) getting the seller a copy of my FFL's... FFL.
C) etc.

Much obliged.

1) check your local laws to verify you are allowed to purchase the weapon, that the weapon is legal in your state, what paperwork you may need (permits?) for the purchase, etc.

2) check with your local dealers to see which one does dealer-to-dealer transfers and how much they charge

3) after you find the right one, get a copy of his FFL. this means just walking in and asking for it.

4) contact the dealer/seller to make the purchase

5) mail the copy of the FFL to the dealer along with detailed information about yourself, the item purchased, your local dealer, including but not limited to: addresses, phone numbers, item #, etc.

6) notify your local dealer with the same information: what item is coming from where and how to reach you when it arrives

7) wait for local dealer's call giddy with anticipation

8) once it arrives, go to your dealer and do whatever paperwork is necessary in your state to take ownership of the firearm

did i forget anything?

Slam, it is relatively easy as long as it isn't a banned weapon in your state, the FFL you go to has the correct category of license etc..

Go to your friendly FFL and ask about transfers (normally around $20 + tax) if they don't do it you can find a list on gunsamerica.com by zip code that will. You fill out a sheet of paper that gives them the info. on what they will be receiving and contact info. on yourself so they can let you know when it has arrived. They will then give you a copy of their FFL to send off to the seller with payment. Seller receives FFL and payment and then hopefully ships said weapon :D and you get a call that it has arrived :what: . Wait times vary depending on weapon, having a cwp, long gun, state etc.

One other thing, if it is a newer weapon that the dealer could have sold to you directly they aren't always happy and might charge a higher rate.

Very harmless, good luck.
