(Note to the moderators: I'm not sure if this should be here, but since the timer works with BP, here's a good place to start. If it needs to be moved, please do so.)

My son and daughter bought me an iPod Touch for my birthday. I ordered the shot timer application for it, finally got to try it out today. Here's my thoughts.

Does it work? Yes, pretty good. Here's a photo of a 5 shot string from the history:

As you an see, it shows time to first shot (1.86 seconds is excellent for me), time of each shot, and in small print the elapsed time between shots.

Here's another 5 shot string:

Notice this one shows 7 shots. In this case the timer picked up the steel ringing on shot 1 and on shot 4, and counted them as shots.

To use the timer you must first calibrate the sensor to the type gun you're shooting. You turn on the recorder, fire a shot, turn off the timer. It then shows a graph, and you can move the high and low sound markers up and down so it will disregard any sound higher or lower than you set it. I didn't have it calibrated quite right so it picked up the steel ring part of the time. You can save calibrations, and later select the calibration for the gun you're shooting. You have to run the timer based on what you're shooting. I'd reckon a calibration for .22 and one for centerfire pistol would be all you'd need.

The biggest drawback for the iPod touch, is you must have a set of earphones that also includes a microphone. That's another $30.00 or so bucks. So I had to wear the earphones to work the timer, and earmuffs for ear protection. I'd rather wear foam earplugs, but that's out when using the timer. Earmuffs are OK, I just prefer the foam. The earphones obviously have a cord, and not a very long one. You have to be close to a table, or something you can lay the iPod on. I tried dropping it into my pocket after hitting the start button, but since it's a touch screen, I'd end up with some other application running. I ended up holding it in my hand, since I shoot duelist anyway. Another person could stand right behind you and run the timer easy enough, but I was alone.

Overall, I like it, and think it was well worth the $9.99 dollar download fee. If you have an iPhone it would work even better, since you wouldn't need the earphones.
