Product Review: Rem 700 Mag Xtender -- Why is it closed?

I can tell you I have one on my remi VTR .308 and for me, it wasnt worth it. It is supposed to hold 8 rounds and I can only fit 5. It looks to me that I would have to make the rifles' mag well slightly larger to let the follower fully seat down into the extender. I have pondered just putting the stock piece back on but it does function with five rounds and it looks really cool.

Cool, thanks for the response. My Rem 700 in .308 only holds 3, so it would seem 5 would be better. I figured for $20 at MidwayUSA it might be worth a shot.

I read on the reviews at Midway that some people had problems with them hinging open sometimes while shooting. Ever had that happen?

Do you have any pictures.

Thanks
Greebe

I have one on my SPS-V and it works great. I have no problem at all fitting 7 rounds of .308 into it. The only thing I wish was different about it is that it were made out of aluminum or steel rather than polymer. Don't get me wrong, it's a fairly sturdy polymer that I'm sure would hold up in all but the most extreme of circumstances, but I would still feel more comfortable with it if it were made of metal.

i have one that i put on my remmy, i ended up taking it back off. after about a year, it started poping open, and dumping all of the ammo on the ground when ever it felt like it. i tried to fix it, with no luck. a pain in the keester at the range, a real problem out in the woods! i suppose if you wanted to glue it closed, and use it like a blind magazine. but i just do not like that kind of stuff.
